The City of Claremont Recreation Human Services Department is looking for one highly energetic and experienced individual to assist in the supervision of the Claremont's Youth Activity Center (YAC)).

The Position

The Youth Activity Center (YAC) is looking for one highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills to coordinate lunchtime and after-school activities, supervise participants, staff, and contract workers, and interact with City and School officials. They will also create flyers for events, and plan monthly calendars and weekly schedules. Other duties include making purchases for daily programs and snack bars, administrative support, and coordinating special events for the YAC.

The Program Specialist is part-time and requires 25 hours per week of work. This position is not eligible for benefits. Hours of work vary Monday - Friday 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM. The Program Specialist will work special events and some weekends for Youth Programs. The mandatory special events all staff are required to work include: Village Venture - in October; Halloween Spooktacular - Saturday before Halloween; Holiday Promenade - First Friday in December; Spring Celebration - Saturday before Easter; 1k Kids Fun Run/5k Run/Walk - Saturday before July 4; 4th of July Celebration - July 4. In addition, Recreation and Human Service staff may be called upon to work for other special events throughout the year.

Ideal Candidate

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and two years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation, social or human services, or a related field. College coursework in social services, human services, social work, or a related field is highly desirable.

A valid California Driver's License, good driving record, and certification in First Aid and CPR are also required. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
