    THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS A REPOSTING TO UPDATE THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE

    DEFINITION:

    Under general supervision, provides mental health counseling and related services in accordance with applicable professional licensing laws, and performs related work as required.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:

    Positions in this class work under general supervision and are assigned to out-patient mental health clinics, and specialized mental health treatment programs such as crisis intervention/screening units and criminal justice mental health programs.

    Within agency guidelines and professional standards, incumbents of these positions function independently in formulating a differential diagnosis concerning the nature of the mental or emotional problem, in developing an effective treatment program, and in determining the intervention methods.

    Essential Job Functions

    Performs initial diagnostic evaluation, noting behavioral symptoms which may indicate mental disorders in children and interpersonal/family/social dysfunctions related to child and adult clients.
    As a member of the professional treatment team, plans intervention programs and disposition of cases under treatment.

    Provides crisis intervention, treatment, case management, and other related mental health services to clients and their families.

    Provides case management, individual, family, and group therapy services.

    Assesses progress of clients on a selected basis and proposes modification to rehabilitative plans in order to meet goals agreed upon by the client.

    Prepares and maintains psychosocial case histories for use in diagnostic evaluations and of patient progress.

    Collects and evaluates medical or psychosocial data such as histories, behavior patterns, and family relationships of clients.

    Engages in psychoeducation activities with consumers, families, and caregivers.

    Engages in outreach and community-based service provision as needed.

    Serves as broker between client and family as needed, linking them to other community resources to assist individuals in maximizing their self-sufficiency and independence within the limits of their disability, providing case management services as appropriate.

    Conducts treatment groups in schools and other community settings with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children toward the goal of achieving higher functioning in interpersonal relations and learning.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

    LICENSE:
    A current valid license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Marriage Family and Child Counselor) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science.
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

    Desirable Qualifications*:
    Experience working with mental health issues and services for children, adolescents, adults and/or older adults.

    Experience in treatment of co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance abuse).

    Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

    Experience in the development of a new mental health program.

    *All desirable qualifications will be scored based on post-licensure experience

    Examination Content:
    This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and desirable qualifications based upon application information weighted 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher in order to be placed on the eligible register.

    Vacancy Information:
    The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Department of Mental Health.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be added to the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.
