Job Description and Duties

Software and System Engineering: The development and maintenance of systems discovery, optimization, and maintenance of the performance and functionality of a defined system, as well as the full lifecycle of end-user device solutions, including evaluation, configuration, provisioning, training, security, tracking, and support for an end-user computing environment.

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the incumbent works at the level of an advanced technical analyst on a complex system software project involving mission-critical control applications for the Department of Justice (DOJ) while under pressure in order to meet challenging time constraints. The incumbent must demonstrate a high level of initiative, effort, and dedication towards the timely completion of the assignment. The Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) will be responsible for the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the department's mission-critical Windows servers and VMware technologies and will work independently on complex system assignments. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support 24x7 for complex problems and issues. The incumbent serves as a project or team leader and manage research, installation, enhancement, configuration, security, maintenance, troubleshooting, backup, recovery and support of more complex projects such as Windows servers, enterprise file servers, active directory, provisioning physical and virtual servers, troubleshooting infrastructure hardware and system software issues, maintaining accurate inventories, VMware technologies, Microsoft 365 and core technologies like Azure, AAD connect, PowerShell scripting, and storage management systems as well as services supported by the Hawkins Data Center's 24x7 operations.

As part of infrastructure monitoring, the position is responsible for analyzing and resolving system malfunctions and software issues 24x7 to ensure data integrity and system accessibility for DOJ's customers. As a project and technical expert, the incumbent must have exceptional knowledge of the aforementioned software, applications, and server hardware in order to consult with all departmental entities. Occasional travel would be required.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs.
