The Science and Engineering Division provides engineering, planning, program management and laboratory services for the City's Wastewater, Surface Water and Solid Waste utilities. This position has final responsibility for lab quality assurance, work product timeliness, lab safety, laboratory equipment and supplies, staff development and training, operational budget, and spending approvals within the laboratory. This position is directly responsible or influential in meeting a number of key environmental regulations by performing analyses of environmental samples for the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, Model Toxics Control Act, and hazardous waste designation rules. Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has thorough experience in the operation and management of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant. The incumbent has demonstrated excellent communication, organizational and managerial skills. The Plant Manager is a leader and can manage large and complex projects in coordination with external and internal stakeholders. This person can relate well to staff who are at every level of experience, from blue collar to PhD’s. Further, the incumbent has experience in collaborating with internal stakeholders at all levels, as well as with external partners, regulators, etc. While an engineering as well as operations background is ideal, as well as senior-level management experience, experience managing large capital improvement projects, as well as financial experience, etc., the most important key attributes include strong operational knowledge and experience. EMPLOYEE BENEFITS As an employee of the County of Sacramento, there will be a variety of benefits available to you. GENERAL BENEFITS: Most employee benefits are similar to the following for all County employees. PARENTAL LEAVE: Entitles a regular County employee, with at least one year of continuous employment, to schedule a paid parental leave of up to 160 hours upon the birth or during the process of an adoption of a minor child. Parental leave shall be approved by the employee's appointing authority, except where the granting of the parental leave request would unduly interfere with or cause severe hardship upon department operations. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: Dependent upon union agreements, regular County employees may be eligible to receive Tuition Reimbursement. DENTAL INSURANCE: The County provides a comprehensive dental benefit program for regular full-time and part-time employees and their eligible dependents.
