ABOUT THE POSITION
The first 75 applicants that meet the County of Marin’s minimum qualifications will be reviewed and guaranteed to move forward to the next testing step. As a Fire Dispatcher Assistant, you will be working to support the Marin County Fire Department by helping with dispatching resources by radio and telephone. You will also be performing both emergency and non-emergency incident support work. This is a great entry-level opportunity for those who want to gain the skills and abilities necessary to be able to dispatch public safety personnel and equipment effectively while working in a supportive team environment.
This is a temporary position for staffing during the peak wildland fire season, expected to conclude at the end of fire season (late Fall 2024). The typical work schedule consists of 10-12 hour shifts, but candidates must be willing to work a 24-hour shift if needed and/or be willing to be called back and work overtime in emergency situations.
ABOUT YOU
Our Highly Qualified Candidate: We are looking for Fire Dispatcher Assistant professionals with a passion for working together as a team and serving the community. Ideal candidates will be able to react with sound judgment when under stress and in emergency situations while doing several tasks simultaneously. They will be able to listen and clarify incoming calls to extract pertinent information, communicate effectively, and write detailed reports. Additionally, they will be able to read, write, alphabetize, follow written and oral instructions, and conduct simple record keeping. Knowledge of the highways, main streets, major buildings, and geography of Marin County is a plus. Experience in emergency services or completion of an accredited dispatch training program are also highly desirable.

Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16, 2024. Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
