Job Description and Duties LIFEGUARD II (SEASONAL) - SIERRA DISTRICT / LAKE TAHOE SECTOR Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The ability to work outdoors in adverse weather and direct sun are required. Duties include This is the lead-person level for the seasonal lifeguard series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform all the duties of Lifeguard I (Seasonal) and in addition, assist in training; planning work schedules and assignments; dispatching and leading a group of seasonal lifeguards engaged in lifesaving activities. A Lifeguard II (Seasonal) must have the ability to follow directions; remain alert; analyze situations accurately; think and act quickly and take command in emergencies; establish and maintain good working relations; and communicate effectively. Detect and rescue persons and vessels in distress. Perform first aid and resuscitation procedures. Notify dispatch of accidents and rescues, prepare reports, remove hazards, assist the public and advise visitors of park rules and regulations. Assisting State Park Peace Officers during vessel operations. Desirable abilities include communicating effectively with co-workers and visitors; multi-tasking in a fast-paced, public contact setting; following directions; good customer service skills; preparing written and computer-generated reports. The purchase and wearing of a State Park Uniform will be required. State Parks grooming standards must be met. This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. Under limited supervision acts as a first responder; lifeguards an area of beach from an assigned station; patrols a section of beach in an emergency rescue response vehicle; participates in marine and other related emergencies; makes rescues and prevents marine accidents; patrols beaches with the overall goal of providing protection to life, limb, and property; participates in lifeguard skill development. Job Description and Duties LIFEGUARD I (SEASONAL) - INLAND EMPIRE DISTRICT / LAKE PERRIS STATE RECREATION AREA Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. The Lifeguard I (Seasonal) reporting location is Lake Perris State Recreation Area, located at 17801 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA, 92571. The Seasonal Lifeguard I works under the immediate supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger) and under the direction of the Seasonal Lifeguard II, Lifeguard P.I., or on-duty State Park Peace Officer. The Inland Empire District consists of Lake Perris State Recreation Area, Chino Hills State Park, California Citrus State Historic Park, Mount San Jacinto State Park, Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, Providence Mountain State Park, San Timoteo Canyon State Park, and Wildwood Canyon State Park. All parks listed are managed by a State Park Superintendent V and further organized into the following functions: Visitor Services, Aquatic Services, Maintenance Services, and Administrative Services. Peak season dates are May 1 st through September 30 th and Seasonal Lifeguards are expected to work most weekends and holidays during this timeframe. This position is intermittent and may work up to 189 days in a 12-month period. Schedules are written monthly, and hours vary based on operational need. If hired, Seasonal Lifeguards will complete a paid 80-hour training program before being assigned to lifeguard duties. This training program will start on June 9 th , 2024.
