The Senior Utility Service Representative is the advanced working/lead level class in the Utility Service Representative series. Under general supervision, provides lead direction to field representatives assigned to servicing single and multi-family residential, commercial and industrial City water system users; and performs specialized field and public contact work. THE POSITION The Community Development Departments Code Compliance Division is recruiting for a Customer Service Representative to provide administrative and customer service support for the division and its customers. IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT The ideal candidate will possess the experience, skills, and characteristics to: Deliver quality customer service. Be comfortable interacting with customers by phone, text, and in-person. Exhibit high levels of professionalism, competency, and problem-solving skills. Possess experience in de-escalation to assist challenging customers by phone and at the public counter. Explain City Codes and policies to assist customers to gain compliance. Provide detailed notes, memos, and letters. To perform a variety of record keeping, general clerical, transaction processing, and public contact and customer service work over the telephone and at a public counter; and direct information requests according to established standards and procedures. This is the journey-level class in the Customer Service series. The Customer Service Representative class is distinguished from the Customer Service Assistant in that the latter is the entry-level class in the Customer Service series where incumbents would lack a complete knowledge of unit procedures and standards, and not yet able to perform the full range of duties without immediate supervision. This class is distinguished from the Customer Service Specialist in that the latter is the advanced journey level class in the series and is considered the technical expert of the series. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed, and are usually filled by advancement from the lower-level class of Customer Service Assistant. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance: stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is also required to use feet, ankles, legs, hands and arms to operate necessary equipment. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods of time, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, stretching, bending, pushing, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing between 50-95 pounds. Occasional to frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions while performing work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Ability and Skill to: Must be able to work mornings, evenings, and weekends Perform manual labor At least 18 years of age Possess or obtain by date of employment valid certification in CPR and First Aid Attend orientation training Must have reliable transportation Knowledge of: Must have internet and computer experience Excellent customer service skills Ability to work independently with minimum supervision; establish and maintain effective working relationship with field users, staff, general public and District employees. Education/Experience/Training: High school diploma or GED required Some previous experience with a sports background is desirable Must possess current certificates for CPR & First Aid, or the ability to get upon employment. and must maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of continued employment Special Requirements: Provide proof of negative TB Skin Test Possession of a valid CA Driver’s License Verification of ID and ability work in the USA Any offer of employment to an adult employee who will have direct contact with minors is conditional upon a satisfactory fingerprint clearance and background check (DOJ)
