    The Position

    Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.

    Correctional Nurse III will work under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Service for the facility and will consult with them on a regular basis. They will be supervising CN II?s. They will be supervising the selection and assignment of duties; supervise performance, evaluations, counseling, and discipline. Assure infection control procedures and OSHA guidelines are followed by staff. Ensure staff receives annual training on OSHA guidelines, blood borne pathogens, use of safety engineered sharps, safe work practices and use of personal protective equipment. They will follow NDOC?s Personnel Code of Ethic outlined in AR339. Observe all safety practices at all times for the safely of self and others. Follow Department accident reporting procedures. Comply with all OSHA guidelines. They will be working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments, promote optimal health and patient independence, document problems requiring nursing interventions, document patient teaching needs and discharge planning, communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
