The Department & Human Development Program The Human Development major is designed to provide students with a comprehensive grounding in theoretical approaches to human development across the life course in comparative cross-species, cross-cultural, and multicultural, as well as class and gender perspectives. The human development major is interdisciplinary, meaning that it draws on theories and concepts from multiple disciplines, including: Anthropology, Biology, Education, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology, and Women's & Gender Studies.
The Anthropology Department offers a B.A. in Human Development, a B.A. in Anthropology, a minor in Anthropology, and an M.A. in Cultural Resources Management (CRM). The current tenure-track faculty consists of an anthropologist specializing in comparative human development, as well as faculty supporting an integrated, four-field approach in anthropology: one linguistic anthropologist, one cultural anthropologist, one archaeologist, one bioarchaeologist, and one biological anthropologist.

Duties of the Position The department seeks instructors in undergraduate courses in any one or more of the Core or Topical Areas (Childhood and Adolescence; Adulthood and Lifespan; Gender and Sexuality; Society, Culture, and Language) offered by the Human Development Program (i.e., having an HD prefix), at either lower-division or upper-division levels. One lower-division introductory HD course also serves as a General Education course for non-majors. Upper-division courses focus on areas of more specialized topics and applications. Classes that focus on social and cultural approaches to health, well-being, and/or dis-ability are also of interest.

Professional Qualifications To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have :
A Ph.D. in Human Development or related disciplines with specialization in the subdiscipline(s) relevant to the courses that the applicant proposes to teach. A.B.D.s, M.A.s, and Ph.D.s in related disciplines with sufficient teaching, work, and/or research experience in the area of specialization will be considered. Experience teaching in hybrid and/or online modalities, and with Canvas LMS or similar is desirable. Candidates should also indicate any relevant experience utilizing innovative instruction techniques and/or working within a diverse university community.
Rank and Salary Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
- Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
- The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
- Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
- Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
- Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
- Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.
