The Clinic Physician Assistant will provide primary care services in an ambulatory outpatient clinic setting. Incumbent will perform comprehensive medical assessment of patients and establish medical diagnosis for patients, both independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals. Clinic Physician Assistant may indirectly supervise Medical Assistants, and address action items according to medical standards and clinic policies and procedures. The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis. Examples of Duties Under the supervision of a licensed physician, performs comprehensive medical assessment of patients with real or potential acute and/or chronic health problems to determine their physical, emotional and social status by taking a complete medical history; perform a physical examination, initiate screening and diagnostic procedures; evaluate results of clinical findings and laboratory tests; establish a medical diagnosis; report any abnormalities to a physician. Identifies and manages common illnesses and/or other health problems in an outpatient clinical setting; refers problems or illnesses that require immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician; assumes on-going responsibility for follow-ups. Plans a program of care, in collaboration with physicians, and/or other medical professionals as needed; orders appropriate treatments and prescribes/regulates medications per physician-agreed standards; Furnish medication under the supervision of a physician and in accordance with standardized procedures; monitors individual response(s) to medication; and educates individuals and their families as needed. Orders, evaluates, and interprets findings of a variety of diagnostic and laboratory tests which may include: x-rays, blood counts, chemistry panels, lipid panels, liver function tests, medical levels, EKG, etc. Reviews patient charts; records, documents, and maintains accurate records of assessments, evaluations, nursing/medical care administered, patient responses, and follow-up accurately and timely; utilizes the electronic health record systems according to protocol and procedures established by the appropriate agency. Teaches and counsels patients, parents or other family members regarding health maintenance in the area of specialization; teaches individuals and families information and skills necessary to maintain and improve health; advocates for the promotion of good physical health and disease prevention. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated patient care; coordinates and facilitates referrals to other health or social agencies. Performs and monitors therapeutic procedures. THE POSITION Behavioral Health Services / Outpatient Programs: The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant in the behavioral health outpatient programs performs high level licensed clinical duties under the guidance of a physician within the clinics and in the community including critical assessment of the client’s needs (including physical health), psychiatric conditions and current status; health evaluation and screening; patient care instruction, dispensing of psychotropic oral medication and administration of long-acting injectable medications; conducts brief individual education and counseling to patients and/or family members regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and physical health follow-up, encourages linkage to health services; consults with the physicians and clinical program colleagues; addresses medication issues and pharmacy concerns and requests; reconciles medication inventories, coordinates pharmacy deliveries and completes accurate and timely documentation. To support client recovery and resilience, the BH Nurse engages in health promotion, prevention, and education activities (i.e., assess for risky behaviors and attempt behavior change); educates other team members to help them monitor psychiatric symptoms and medication side effects; and when clients are in agreement, develop strategies to maximize the taking of medications as prescribed (e.g., behavioral tailoring, development of individual cues and reminders.) Family Health Services / Medical Clinics: The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions at an expanded level of responsibility by utilizing services of the nurse practitioner or the physician assistant within the framework of mutually established medical protocols and guidelines. TitanMED is the student health center at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), a campus part of the California State University (CSU) system. CSUF is seeking a passionate and skilled health care professional to work as a Physician in TitanMED, the clinical services arm of TitanHEALTH. We are seeking a candidate who will communicate and interact successfully with University students as well as coordinate and integrate care with other team members in TitanMED, TitanWell (health promotion services), and TitanTHRIVE (confidential advocacy and community engagement). Performs minor surgeries not requiring general anesthesia. May be assigned to direct and oversee specific departments within the Student Health Center, such as laboratory or radiology, participate in specialty clinics, and student health center or campus committees including the campus health and safety program. Other duties as assigned. Essential Qualifications Graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California. Completion of one or more residency programs in a specialty appropriate to the assigned duties with increasingly responsible experience in the practice of that specialty. Prior or current affiliation with a hospital or outpatient clinic is preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of assigned medical specialty. Thorough knowledge of community resources in medical treatment and public health practices. General knowledge of the diagnosis of common medical disorders. General knowledge of county medical society, California Medical Association, and American Medical Association ethics and standards. Ability to skillfully apply principles and techniques of modern medicine in the functional area(s) to which assigned. Ability to provide diagnostic treatment and medical counseling services in a campus medical program. Ability to work effectively with students, administration, and faculty. Ability to analyze emergency situations and take prompt action. Ability to participate on medical staff committees and work with a variety of medical practitioners and specialists. Ability to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other Health Center personnel. Ability to prepare comprehensive case histories. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Ability to provide general medical care as requested. Provide sexual health education, counseling and care, including administration of medication abortion services.
