ABOUT THE POSITION The Clark County Special Public Defender's Office is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Chief Deputy Public Defender position. This is a trial attorney position that will provide a wide variety of highly complex and specialized professional legal services, capital cases and category A felonies including murder, sexual assault of a minor, and other offenses carrying a potential life sentence. Candidates with prior experience in defending clients charged with sexual assault and murder are preferred. Provides a wide variety of highly complex and specialized professional legal services, including handling the most complex cases, major criminal, capital murder, and other high profile cases. This is the fully experienced senior-level class in this professional series. Individuals in this class must have demonstrated exceptional performance in handling complex legal work assignments. Employees handle the most complex, specialized, and highly sensitive defense cases. Incumbents possess advanced knowledge of Court proceedings and the application of laws and are capable of training and supervising other Attorneys. This position is distinguished from the Deputy Public Defender by the responsibility for the greater level of complexity of cases assigned and the diminished need for supervision. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
