In addition to Student Health & Wellness Services, this cluster includes Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Disability Resource Center. Student Health and Wellness Services aims to promote students' healthy lifestyles and academic success by providing quality medical, psychological, and wellness services. The department provides ambulatory health care, health education programs, prevention, and healing services to students of Cal Poly Pomona. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Act as the point person to carry out Immunization requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 803 by working under the direction of and in collaboration with the Lead Nurse, Lead Physician, and Director on activities including, but not limited to, the following: Review incoming student immunization records to ensure compliance with EO 803. Administer vaccines, perform TB tests, order labs, and follow-up lab results related to immunization compliance. Run queries to identify non-compliant students and place registration holds as indicated. Initiated, monitored, and tracked follow-up communication with students regarding immunization compliance and tuberculosis testing timelines. Counsel and educate patients on matters related to immunization compliance. Schedule appointments for immunizations, titers, and TB testing. Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of vaccines. Perform monthly documentation of vaccine Inventory Reconciliation. Maintain calibration of temperature monitoring equipment. Identify temperature excursions on the vaccine refrigerator quickly and take immediate action to correct them. Coordinate with programs and departments on campus involved in immunization requirements. Collaborate in planning, coordination, and preparation of immunization clinics. Assist in the development and implementation of immunization related nursing policies and protocols. Provide updates to staff on Best Practice Immunization guidelines and recommendations Primary oversight for Medical Assistants and LVN's during immunization clinics and review of submitted immunization records for compliance with EO 803. In collaboration with the charge nurse, adjust Daily Schedule nursing assignments to meet high demand times for Immunization Clearance. Provides student-centered and culturally competent patient care in accordance with Student Health & Wellness Services procedures. Provides nursing assessment, observation, and intervention in any patient care areas of Student Health Services. Interview the patient to collect data regarding the nature of the patient's condition, including symptoms and signs of illness and/or injury. Assist in patient flow and rooming. Prepare patients for examination by a licensed health care provider and assist in the examination when appropriate. Take vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, height, and weight, and make appropriate entries in electronic medical health records. Contribute to the evaluation of individualized interventions related to the care or treatment plan and perform follow-up treatments as requested. Under the orders of a physician or similar licensed practitioner and according to established standardized procedures, may administer medications by various means, including intramuscular and subcutaneous routes. Incumbents may start and superimpose intravenous lines and fluids and administer vaccines provided a prescribed course approved by the Board of Licensed Vocational Nursing and competencies have been verified. Perform TB and other skin tests; Administer allergy injections, medications, immunizations, and IV therapy.
