Description The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular vacancy in the Substation Department, Transmission & Distribution Division under general direction from the Relay Crew Leader to test, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate Protection System Equipment associated with the District's Transmission and Distribution Systems. This Protection System/Controls Equipment includes but is not limited to the following: Protective Relays, Current Transformers, Potential Transformers, Capacitor Voltage Transformer, Coupling Capacitor Voltage Transformers, Combination Metering Units, and ancillary control systems. All work must comply with District Standards. Documentation and verification of all work performed is critical; specify needed equipment and perform various other technical functions as required. May require overtime and/or emergency work. Any Qualified Individual May Apply. This is a non-exempt position and part of the Utility Services and Maintenance Bargaining Unit. Perform calibrations and load settings on analog and digital meters, transducers and SCADA inputs. Perform offline and online function and trip tests and take in service readings to monitor system performance. Perform any other maintenance of Protection System Equipment deemed necessary in order to provide and maintain a safe and reliable Transmission and Distribution System. Operate various test and calibration equipment. Perform high voltage switching on voltages up to 230,000 volts in coordination with the Dispatch Control Center. Develop test plans for testing and Protection System Equipment. Develop and maintain information for protection system maintenance and testing. Prepare reports and maintain records. TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR: Perform tests and repairs on control circuits, relay circuits and data recorders in order to identify and assist in correcting problems in circuit breakers, protection systems, power transformers, and SCADA systems. Repair electro-mechanical relays. Access, retrieve, and display digitally recorded faults, fault records and displays to locate problems and check system performance. Collectively work with other personnel in order to troubleshoot and repair substation control equipment. INSTALLATIONS: Review schedules, estimates, relay settings, and drawings such as: electrical single-line, schematics, logic diagrams, wire diagrams. Perform circuit integrity tests, acceptance tests, functional tests and start-up tests. Develop and perform detailed acceptance tests on Protection System Equipment and associated wiring in coordination with Substation Electricians and the Dispatch Control Center. SAFETY: Use safe work practices, methods and procedures to work on or around high voltage (up to 230KV) and low voltage (600V or less) systems. Develop skills to become proficient at all responsibilities of the Journey Relay Test Technician upon completion of the apprenticeship.
