    Job Description

    Position Overview

    As the Assistant County Attorney, you will serve as a legal advisor to the Human Services departments, including Child Support Enforcement and Child Welfare. You will manage designated legal affairs as assigned by the County Attorney and ensure the Board of County Commissioners and other County offices are properly represented in all legal proceedings.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the County Attorney with legal matters in areas such as land use planning, zoning regulations, personnel and employment, bond financing, property acquisition, and taxation.
    • Conduct legal research, prepare litigation and appeals, draft legal documents, and consult with the public and county staff.
    • Advise County divisions and offices on legal rights, obligations, and procedures.
    • Serve as active counsel in litigation and conduct criminal enforcement actions related to County ordinances.
    • Assemble evidence for legal actions and represent clients in court and before administrative agencies.
    • Provide legal support in areas such as purchasing, contracting, and personnel administration.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutes and ordinances.

    Job Requirements

    Education: A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado.

    Experience: A minimum of two years of legal practice experience, preferably with public entity experience. Expertise in land use, employment contracts, social services, and aviation law is desirable.

    Skills: Strong litigation, negotiation, and facilitation skills. Ability to interpret and apply complex legal documents and statutes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
