    Job Description

    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Purtis Creek State Park, 14225 FM 316 N, Eustace, TX 75124

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of the Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (senior-level) custodial work. Responsible for assisting with custodial work and the operation and maintenance of Purtis Creek State Park. Duties include cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment and grounds. May assist with general routine maintenance and repairs to facilities and buildings. Performs general visitor assistance. Assists with agency and park programs to include resource management and interpretation. Prepares required reports. Provides visitor information concerning park rules and regulations. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

    NOTE : Position may fluctuate between full-time/part-time hours based on operational needs.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Completion of 8th grade.

    Experience :

    One year in areas such as general cleaning, housekeeping or custodial work.

    Licensure :

    Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license at the time of hire.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Working with the public.

    General knowledge of maintenance related duties.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of general facility, building and grounds repair and cleaning techniques;

    Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques;

    Knowledge of general custodial duties;

    Knowledge of basic mathematics;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in using a personal computer;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

    Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;

    Skill in cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms using chemicals in accordance with directions on labels;

    Skill in the use of custodial equipment;

    Ability to accurately follow directions;

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

    Ability to prepare reports and forms;

    Ability to work as a member of a team;

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

    Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work 10 to 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Hours may be reduced or extended as needed.

    Required to adjust to changing schedules.

    This position will fluctuate between part-time and full-time status throughout the term of employment. Changing from part-time to full-time and vice versa may impact the amount of leave accrued and health insurance rates.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    May be required to operate a State vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking work environment in all state buildings and vehicles.
