    JOB SUMMARY

    The WIC Registered Dietitian (RD)/Quality Supervisor ensures the delivery of compliant, high-quality nutrition services across agency clinics. This role drives program integrity and continuous improvement through audits, observations, corrective action, staff training, and policy standardization, while providing expert-level counseling for high-risk clients, breastfeeding support, and clinical assessments. Serving as a technical resource for staff and a liaison with healthcare providers and state partners, the position promotes evidence-based practices and consistent service delivery.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Oversees WIC program compliance and quality assurance, including audits, corrective actions, and policy updates.
    • Provides high-risk nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support, and approves specialized formula requests.
    • Leads staff development and training programs to ensure adherence to WIC standards.
    • Conducts participant certifications, clinical assessments, and maintains accurate records.
    • Monitors program performance, analyzes trends, and prepares reports for quality improvement.
    • Represents WIC at community and state events; promotes program awareness and education.
    • Maintains clinic safety and sanitation; ensures compliance with infection control protocols.
    • Performs other duties as needed to support program operations.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public health nutrition, WIC program operations, or clinical nutrition; OR a commensurate combination of experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the role.
    • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


    COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience leading program compliance/quality assurance initiatives in a WIC or public health setting.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish).


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
    • Advanced knowledge of nutrition science, breastfeeding support, and public health principles; ability to translate clinical guidance into practical education for participants.
    • Knowledge of WIC regulations, program integrity standards, and quality management practices; skill in developing policies, audits, and corrective actions.
    • Strong communication, training, and relationship-building skills with staff, healthcare providers, and community partners.
    • Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and implement process improvements.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive clinical and compliance matters.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This position requires lifting up to 45 pounds rarely. Frequent activities include sitting, handling, fine dexterity, vision, hearing, and talking. Occasional activities include standing, walking, pushing/pulling, reaching, and carrying. Rare activities include kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, and using foot controls.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is primarily performed in a WIC clinic setting. The role involves exposure to infectious diseases and occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals; situations with irate individuals may occur.

    This is a safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to health and safety protocols. Immunizations are recommended but not mandatory. The WIC program covers costs for those who choose to receive them. Team members may decline any or all immunizations.
