    Positive Supports Consultant

    *Typical working hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.*

    Flexible Schedules/No On-call. Successful candidate will be domiciled in the Columbia, Kirksville, or Rolla Regional Offices of the Division of Developmental Disabilities.

    The Missouri Tiered Supports Team is seeking a motivated professional to fill the position of Positive Supports Consultant. Persons in this role primarily provide consultation to DMH-DD contracted providerson implementation of Tier 1 systems of support: Missouri Tiered Supports . Positive Supports Consultants facilitate and or co-facilitate a variety of workshops for division staff, provider teams, and family members of supported individuals.

    Tiered Supports: organizational behavior management program that encourages agencies to develop and maintain universal support systems for their staff and the people they support. Team members provide professional development and support on a variety of subjects such as building an agency team, system development, databased decision-making, coaching and training, and Person-Centered Planning.

    Tools of Choice (ToC): a curriculum developed by behavior analysts, which teaches proactive relationship building strategies to decrease the likelihood of undesirable behavior. ToC is highly interactive, and requires the facilitator to utilize best practice competency based teaching strategies. Facilitators must feel comfortable with public speaking to a variety of audiences, as well as engaging participants in role playing scenarios, and providing feedback.

    Knowledge and Skills :

    • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Support principles and practices
    • Knowledge of Strategic Planning, Data Evaluation, and Policies and Procedures
    • Knowledge of behavioral sciences and allied disciplines involved in the evaluation and development of Systems of Care for provider agencies
    • Organizational , and time management expertise
    • Advanced computer skills (especially with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet)
    • Ability to navigate variety of computer applications (ex. WebEx / Microsoft Teams, Tableau, SharePoint)
    • Ability to exercise constructive discipline in a structured behavioral environment
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


    Special Notes:

    • Special training and/or formal course work in Positive Behavior Supports and Behavioral Systems Analysis must be completed prior to, or within 12 months of, accepting the position
    • Applicants must be eligible for designation as a QDDP under Federal standards for an Intermediate Care Facility-Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID)


    Responsibilities include:

    • Consulting with division contracted provider agencies to identify and implement universal systems of support focused on improving the quality of life for everyone (staff, admin, supported individuals)
    • Observing and conducting observations on-site or virtually, conducting interviews, reviewing policies and procedures, provider documentation, and other relevant materials to inform annual assessments, and support providers teams in determining goals and strategic plans (action steps)
    • Presenting findings of assessments during organization team meetings
    • Presenting with provider teams at the annual Tiered Supports Summit (groups of 50-100)
    • Maintaining detailed records, tracking, and preparing reports on outcomes of contracted provider data: coaching, action plan, organizational values and recognition, etc.
    • Communicating positively and effectively with supported individuals and families, co-workers, division staff, and service providers, in order to foster a successful working relationship with all entities
    • Attend a yearly conference hosted by the Missouri Tiered Supports team, “Tiered Supports Networking Summit”


    Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in behavior analysis, social work, psychology, recreational therapy, or other human service related field preferred; four or more years of service as a QDDP, Tiered Agency team member, coach, or ToC facilitator in lieu of degree requirements considered.
