    This position will be located at 111 Fairground Road, Rolla, MO 65401.

    As the Project Manager, Records and Data for the Missouri Geological Survey, you will lead geologic data preservation efforts and manage physical and digital collections of geologic data for an organization that was established in 1853. You will assist in ensuring the accuracy and scientific integrity of geologic datasets, adhering to all agency standards of data use and accessibility. You will champion data preservation, stewardship, and GIS best practices across the Missouri Geological Survey, and leverage expertise in databases and data science, geospatial science, and geology to shepherd the development of new datasets and publications. In this role you will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include Technical Competency, Service, Professionalism, Ingenuity, and Cooperation and the mission and values of the Division and Department.

    • Develop and implement a long-term strategy for managing physical and digital geologic collections for the Missouri Geological Survey.
    • Oversee the entire lifecycle of data assets, from initial submission to publication, ensuring all data are up-to-date, accurate, findable, and accessible.
    • Work cooperatively with Office of Administration Information Technology Services Division team members to use GIS expertise and geologic knowledge to manage, curate, and update datasets.
    • Support data preservation projects funded by the state and U.S. Geological Survey program by assisting with writing proposals, managing budgets, and collaborating with a team in locating, interpreting, and compiling geologic data. Independently ensure data quality and timely delivery.
    • Ensure long-term access to Missouri Geological Survey knowledge by archiving published reports, maps, and data, organizing folders, purging unnecessary files, and maintain a clean inventory of historical records.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Database Management Systems : Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security and integrity of data.
    • Project Management : Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
    • Decisiveness : Make well-informed, effective, and timely decisions, even when data are limited, or solutions produce unpleasant consequences; perceives the impact and implications of decisions.
    • Stakeholder Engagement : Knowledge of the concepts, practices, and techniques used to identify, engage, influence, and monitor relationships with individuals and groups connected to a work effort; including those actively involved, those who exert influence over the process and its results, and those who have a vested interest in the outcome (positive or negative).


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
