Why you’ll love this position:This role helps protect the health and safety of Missourians by serving as the primary liaison between state legislators, stakeholders and the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). The DHSS Legislative Director advances legislative priorities through the state legislative process and proactively meets the informational needs of state legislators and other interested parties in the policy-making and regulatory process.
The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
- Serves as primary communication point between state legislators, stakeholders and DHSS leadership
- Plan, organize and coordinate legislative matters related to DHSS
- Works with the department director and senior staff to establish legislative priorities• Serve as a key advocate and information source for the public health needs of Missouri
- Complete legislative research and technical preparation, analysis and tracking
- Advises DHSS Department Director and senior leadership team on legislative issues and decisions
Minimum Qualifications: - Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university;
- A legal degree or understanding of Missouri statutory construction laws a plus;
- Expected to register as a lobbyist with the Missouri Ethics Commission and following statutory and regulatory requirements for lobbyists;
- Experience with the legislative, regulatory, and/or political process;
- Exercises confidentiality and discretion;
- Ability to exercise strategic thinking;
- Ability to build relationships and share data-driven data and information persuasively;
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
- Willingness to serve as a collaborator with internal and external coalition groups
