The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education.     Salary

    The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $73,692 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Compensation Notice

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $69,444 - $101,160 per year (Step 1 - Step 20); Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 4 ($73,692 per year). Future increases, including step advancement, are subject to contract negotiations.

    Position Information

    The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a Junior Application Developer to provide technical support for CSU's Oracle/PeopleSoft applications, including HCM, Finance, and Campus Solutions. Information Systems’ Application Development area encompasses application support, implementation, and upgrade activities for 22 campuses and the CSU Chancellor's Office (CO), as well as integration with other third-party/external and/or internal systems. Under direct supervision, the Software Developer I performs entry-level professional software development duties to support software planning, maintenance, and development following detailed and established procedures. Work is reviewed for accuracy and soundness of technical concepts. The incumbent must possess general knowledge of software development principles, concepts, frameworks, and tools.

    This position is approved for telecommuting (two days telecommuting, three days in office (in-person)) with onsite work at the main headquarters located in Long Beach, California.

    Responsibilities

    Under the general direction of the Director, Application Operations, the Junior Application Developer will:

    -Assist with technical support for the 22 CSU campuses by analyzing and troubleshooting fundamental campus application issues reported through Service-Now/Optimize cases. Adhere to published Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and IS procedures. Will assist with the coordination of PeopleSoft updates, fixes, upgrades, and installations.

    -In accordance with standard practices and procedures, perform unit and application analysis, testing, and troubleshooting for Oracle/PeopleSoft bundles, new enhancements, Tools, and Oracle upgrade releases, Maintenance Pack releases, and CSU custom development.

    -Assist with basic PeopleSoft development using PeopleTools, Web Services, Integration Broker, Application Messaging, Application Designer, PeopleCode, Application Engine, SQR, Process Scheduler, Data Mover, etc.

    -Participate in project teams as needed to implement new system functionality within the modifications required to address CSU business requirements.

    -Develop and maintain technical documentation required to support the CSU Oracle/PeopleSoft system.

    -Collaborate with all IS teams as needed to understand and resolve campus application issues.

    -Produce deliverables that adhere to quality standards and comply with IS procedures and practices.

    -Undertake special projects, as directed.

    -Provide on-call support, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    This position requires:

    -This position requires a BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    -General knowledge of application development principles, concepts, frameworks, and tools, including the key phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

    -Demonstrated knowledge and ability to write basic code and troubleshoot software application system issues.

    -Computer skills to appropriately troubleshoot and alter systems as required.

    -Basic understanding of programming and debugging principles.

    -Organizational and time management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.

    -Must stay current on programming languages and emerging technologies.

    -Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to gather information from users, convey technical issues effectively, and produce documentation.

    -Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

    -Analytical skills to analyze and troubleshoot issues.

    -Must be proactive and resourceful.

    -Ability to provide on-call support as assigned.

    -Familiarity with SQL/SQR, PeopleCode, PeopleTools, Application Designer, Application Engine, and/or HTML/XML preferred.

    -Completed coursework and/or functional knowledge of PeopleSoft applications is a plus.

    -CSU or other higher education experience is a plus.
