Job Location: St. Louis District Office - 1590 Woodlake Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63017Why you’ll love this position: The district bridge engineer has responsibility for all bridges in a region, both state and non-state, including planning, scoping, inspecting, maintenance work planning and supervising the region's bridge maintenance personnel. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
What you’ll do: - Supervises, plans, schedules and reviews maintenance of state and non-state bridges, culverts, bridge decks, channels and bridge pavement including identifying repairs and recommending maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement.
- Administers bridge projects from programming through final acceptance, including project selection, plan review and pay estimate review.
- Performs and supervises bridge safety inspections to evaluate maintenance needs and assign condition and appraisal ratings.
- Represents the department regarding bridge-related issues to city or county representatives, law enforcement officials, utilities, transportation planning organizations and the media.
- Collects bridge-related information, monitors load posting compliance, reviews inspection results, answers questions, provides safety counseling, investigates liability situations, and provides guidance and direction to local agencies.
All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
- Must complete National Highway Institute (NHI) Course 130055A, "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" prior to beginning inspection assignments.
- Six years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.
- Successful completion of a range of motion examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires occasional, statewide and out-of-state, overnight travel.
- Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental Characteristics conditions.
