    Description

    The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full time vacancies in the Woodland Generation Department, Electric Resources Division, to plan, organize, direct and supervise the operation, maintenance, repair and modification to the District’s generation facilities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

    Any Qualified Individual May Apply. This position is exempt and is allocated to the Professional and Supervisory Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Generation Supervisor vacancies that may occur within the District through September 18, 2026.

    Examples of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for maintaining and operating the District’s generation facilities; implement policies and procedures.
    • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in the maintenance and operation of the District’s power generation facilities.
    • Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
    • Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for equipment, materials, supplies, and services; monitor and control expenditures.
    • Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures and conduct performance evaluations.
    • Administer a computerized maintenance program to plan, develop, and coordinate maintenance schedules.
    • Collect and compile operating and maintenance data and prepare and submit reports necessary to ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulatory requirements.
    • Identify and resolve the more complex operational and maintenance issues.
    • Research and purchase parts and materials necessary for the operation, maintenance and repair of generation facilities.
    • Schedule necessary outages; coordinate with District staff and outside contractors, as necessary.
    • Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
    • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other District employees, outside agencies, and the public using principles of good customer service.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.


    Typical Qualifications

    Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education:
    Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in electronics, electrical, or mechanical technology or a related field.

    Experience:
    Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a power generation facility; including one year providing technical and functional supervision over assigned personnel.

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles and practices of hydraulics and electrical theory as they relate to the operation and maintenance of generation facilities.
    • Equipment, tools and materials used in the installation, modification, maintenance and operation of electrical generation facilities and associated mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic and computer systems.
    • Principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluations.
    • Principles and practices of budget monitoring.
    • Principles and practices of safety management.
    • Pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules.
    • Modern office equipment including use of applicable computer applications.
    • Principles and practices o effective customer service.

    Ability to:

    • Organize, implement and direct generation operations/activities.
    • On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspects of the job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures.
    • Interpret and explain pertinent local, State, Federal, District and department policies and procedures.
    • Assist in the development and monitoring of an assigned program budget.
    • Develop and recommend policies and procedures related to assigned operations.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and maintenance manuals.
    • Perform the more complex duties associated with the operation and maintenance of generation facilities.
    • Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.

    Special Requirements:
    Possession of a valid California class C drivers' license at the time of appointment. A California Class A drivers' license may be required subject to management discretion. Residence within a 35 mile radius of the Generation Supervisor's assigned primary workstation must be established within six (6) months of appointment to this position and maintained thereafter. The Generation Department's primary workstations are defined as the District's McClure Generation Station (639 S. McClure Rd. Modesto, CA.) or the District's Woodland Generation Station (920 Woodland Ave., Modesto, CA) or the District’s Ripon Generation Station (1015 South Stockton Blvd., Modesto CA).
