    CAREER DESCRIPTION

    Printing Production Scheduler

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

    This recruitment will establish an open eligible list. The eligible list established through this recruitment will be used to fill current/future vacancies in different agencies within the County of Orange. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    REGISTRAR OF VOTERS

    The Registrar of Voters, a nationally recognized and award-winning agency, is responsible for conducting elections, verifying petitions and maintaining voter records in the County of Orange, the fifth largest voting jurisdiction in the United States with 1.9 million active registered voters. The department receives funding from the County's General Fund and periodic reimbursement from the federal government, the State of California and local jurisdictions. The Registrar of Voters' staff includes 54 full-time employees, and numerous extra help employees who support various election related positions representing the broad spectrum of Orange County's population. The department is responsible for all components of election management.

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    The Printing Production Scheduler position works in our Printing & Graphics department under general supervision to schedule printing jobs, provide customer service to customer base, coordinate production of printed materials, and track work through all production phases. This position often acts as a liaison with other departments regarding printing needs. Typical examples of job duties may include.
    • Meets daily with managers, and production staff to determine overall job duties and expectations for the day,
    • Assigns jobs; calculates time needed for printing and finishing work; schedules to ensure completion by due dates,
    • Acts as liaison with departments requesting printing services to clarify specifications, suggest alternatives when appropriate and provide cost estimates and information on the status of projects,
    • Enters incoming jobs in the automated job tracking system; updates information as job progresses to various stages; follows up to ensure deadlines are met,
    • Reviews printouts of completed jobs from automated tracking system; provides necessary data to accounting for billing of clients,
    • Maintains inventory control for standard stock items; orders and replenishes inventory as needed, determines need for special stock and/or additional standard stock required for large orders,
    • Maintains computerized printing master file index.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Physical and Mental Requirements: Body mobility to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, squat, and reach with hands and arms above head to retrieve stock; stamina to sit for prolonged periods while in meetings; manual dexterity sufficient to handwrite key items and operate office equipment; strength to lift and carry printing supplies up to 10 lbs., and to pull open and push closed file cabinet drawers; vision sufficient to read standard text and information on computer monitors and printouts as well as identify and distinguish subtle color differences; speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably in person and over the telephone.

    Environmental and Working Conditions: Will be required to work in an office setting and in a printing production environment with considerable noise generated by printing equipment; work around non-toxic chemicals used for the making of metal and paper plates, development of negatives, and stripping and opaquing of film.

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS

    Candidates who meet desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in one or more job-related assessments. Candidates will be notified of their test date and access code, if applicable.

    Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedure listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

    Eligible List
    Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
