Salary Range: $3,459/month *Salary commensurate with experience
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; may have irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities
Digital Content & Social Media Management - Monitors and manages the Mayor's social media presence across Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok
- Creates engaging, timely, and platform-appropriate content that reflects the Mayor's priorities and personality
- Develops visual storytelling through photography, graphics, and video content
- Tracks social media metrics and adjusts strategies to maximize engagement and reach
- Develops and deploys media strategies surrounding Mayor Lucas' policies, priorities, and reactions to current events.
Content Creation & Writing - Assists in writing press releases, speeches, talking points, and other communication materials
- Produces high-quality written content for various audiences and platforms
- Creates multimedia content including photo essays, video scripts, and social media campaigns
- Works with the policy team to simplify complex policies to make engagement and awareness of the democratic process more accessible for all
Media Relations & Press Support - Assists with media inquiries and coordinates responses under tight deadlines
- Supports press conferences, media events, and public appearances
- Monitors news coverage and prepare media summaries for leadership
- Develops relationships and ability to pitch stories to local and national organizations and media entities
Photography & Visual Content - Captures high-quality photos at official events, community gatherings, and day-to-day mayoral activities
- Edits and prepares images for immediate publication across digital platforms
- Maintains a comprehensive photo archive of mayoral activities and city events
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree, preferred in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
- Experience in communications, social media management, or digital marketing
- Experience and an interest in politics or government
Technical Skills: - Proficiency in photography and photo editing software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
- Strong writing and editing abilities across various formats and audiences
- Experience managing multiple social media platforms and understanding platform-specific best practices
- Familiarity with content management systems and social media scheduling tools
- Familiarity with social media analytics and tracking tools to identify pertinent social media conversations across various platforms
Core Competencies: - Speed and Accuracy:
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards
- Adaptability: Comfortable pivoting quickly as news breaks

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
