    Job Summary

    California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated professional to join our team as the Assistant Director of Development. In this pivotal role, you will independently build and maintain a portfolio of prospects, including alumni, donors, and community members. Your primary responsibilities will encompass directly soliciting gifts to support the College of the Arts (COTA), cultivating and stewarding relationships with college alumni, prospects, donors, and external community members, and providing comprehensive project management, assistance, and support at alumni, donor, and prospect events.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead, build and maintain a portfolio of donor prospects and solicit annual leadership and major gifts of $250,000+.
    • Write thank you letters, design and produce donor centric marketing collateral and publications (e.g., impact reports, proposals, case statements), including digital collateral (e.g., social media, website), and other relevant materials in support of fundraising initiatives.
    • Coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities and board committee activities related to funding development.

    The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, handling tasks with grace and a commitment to providing quality customer service. They will demonstrate a strong work ethic and professionalism, complemented by a positive attitude, openness, flexibility, and integrity. A clear understanding of and commitment to equity, inclusion, and access practices is essential. The candidate must have the ability to solicit donations both verbally and in writing, including via email and formal letters. They should be skilled in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a wide range of individuals, including volunteers, prospects, donors, faculty, staff, students, and vendors. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to engage effectively and build trust with donors and partners, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. The candidate must be able to handle confidential information with discretion and perform clerical tasks with sound judgment, accuracy, and efficiency. The role requires the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with program staff, academic departments, the Vice President’s office, and various stakeholders both on and off campus. Additionally, the candidate should be able to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, databases, email, webpages, and social media is also required.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience required.
    • Higher Education and fundraising experience preferred.

    Licenses / Certificates
    • Valid California Driver's License required. Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

    Physical Summary
    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The maximum salary for this position is $6,250 per month, commensurate with education and experience.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,598- $8,318per month.

    Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
