    PAYROLL TITLE(S)
    • Primary Care Clinic Physician
    • Per Diem Primary Care Clinic Physician
    Approximate Salaries
    • Primary Care Clinic Physician: $9,042.72 - $10,474.31 Biweekly (This amount is prorated based on hours worked biweekly)
    • Per Diem Primary Care Clinic Physician: This position is paid $560.00 per half-day of work
    What We Offer:
    The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package. An employee within this position will also be eligible for the following:
    • General Salary Increase (GSI) of 4.0% effective October 12, 2025, and 3.5% effective October 11, 2026.
    • New Hire Incentive: New hires may be eligible for a one-time New Hire Incentive up to 10% of the current annual base wage (Subject to the applicable section of the UAPD MOA Sec. 712).
    • Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational needs and certification skills. Up to $1.32 per hour.
    • Loan Repayment Programs: May be eligible to participate in any loan repayment program not requiring County contribution/participation (UAPD MOA Sec. 709).
    • Holidays: 13 paid days per year which includes two scheduled floating holidays.
    • Deferred Compensation: Eligible to participate in the County's 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. This position is eligible for up to a 3% match on your 401(k)contributions.
    • Health Insurance Plans: Medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your dependents. A flexible credit allowance of up to $25,558 annually.
    • Flexible Spending Accounts: Increase your spending power by reimbursement with pre-taxed dollars for IRS-approved dependent care and health care expenses.
    • Pension Plan: Both you and the County contribute to the County’s Retirement Plan. If you are eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems, such as CalPERS.

    Our County and Community
    Ventura County is located on California's "Gold Coast," nestled between the cities of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and has a nearly perfect Mediterranean climate with an average annual temperature of 74 degrees.     HEALTH CARE AGENCY AMBULATORY CARE- MEDICAL CLINICS
    The County of Ventura Health Care Agency encompasses the Ambulatory Care department. Ambulatory Care is comprised of Federal Qualified Health Centers, such as primary care and specialty clinics. Thirty-Four clinics are located throughout Ventura County that provide health care services on an outpatient basis. Outpatient health care services range from routine care to chronic medical conditions.

    The goal of the Ambulatory Care department is to have healthy people in healthy communities throughout Ventura County. This is achieved by a team of dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals that seek to set the standard in health care excellence.

    THE POSITION
    Provides medical services involving examination, diagnosis, preventative care, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases for children, adolescents, and young adult patients in Ambulatory Care facilities. There are currently opportunities in the following Ambulatory Care Health Clinic locations: Pediatric Diagnostic Center, Mandalay Bay Women's and Childrens' Clinic, and Sierra Vista Family Medical Clinic.

    The Primary Care Clinic Physician and the Per Diem Primary Care Clinic Physician are At-Will classifications that are exempt from the provision of the Civil Service Ordinance.

    Examples Of Duties

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Provides complete, comprehensive, culturally-sensitive clinical care for children ranging from birth to young adulthood. This includes obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, making diagnoses, and treating illness and infectious diseases that are specific to younger people.
    • Provides support including education about healthful living, communicating effectively and compassionately with children and parents, encouraging nurturing environments for a patient’s growth and welfare, and anticipatory guidance for both patients and parents.
    • Conducts developmental monitoring and evaluation of the changing functional status of his or her patients’ growth and development and the consequent changing standards of “normal” for age.
    • Prescribes medications and treatment, monitors patient's progress and adapts treatment as required.
    • Vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
    • Advises patients and their families concerning evidence-based practices pertaining to developmental changes and growth that foster and improve patient health.
    • Coordinates with care team to provide high-quality patient care and ensure patient treatment goals are met.
    • Ability to work with a high volume of patients, internal/external customers, and appropriately manage frequent changes, delay or unexpected events.
    • Follow workflows that support quality improvement efforts and increase patient access.
    • Explains in clear understandable verbal and written language the care plan and any procedures.
    • Advises nursing and related personnel as to the administration of medication and treatment; writes physicians orders.
    • Gives or determines the need for special tests, orders laboratory tests as necessary; interprets special tests.
    • Consults with other physicians and providers, referring patients to specialists when necessary, and working with other healthcare staff, such as nurses, assistants, and other physicians.
    • Keeps accurate and timely medical records and charts and adheres to documentation policies. Prepares various records such as progress notes, comprehensive care plans, summaries, etc. Documents gathered information in medical record as required by policies.
    • Keeps updated problem lists and medication lists for all patients.
    • Responds to portal messages and EHR inbox in a timely fashion and provides coverage for colleagues’ inboxes when they are not available.
    • Participate in meetings, conferences, and training sessions as determined by Ambulatory Care administration.
    • Follows safety protocols, including but not limited to using two patient identifiers, informed consent, and time-out procedures.
    • Keeps all medical staff privileging requirements up-to-date, including CME requirements.
    • Administers first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an emergency.
    • Complies with medical laws (for example, HIPAA). Demonstrates knowledge of domestic violence, child and dependent abuse protocols and mandated reporting.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.


    Typical Qualifications

    These are entrance requirements to the recruitment process and assure neither continuance in the process nor invitation to an interview.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE
    Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency training program, including the following:
    • Degree in Medicine,
    • At least 3 years of residency training devoted to the aspects of medical care for children, adolescents, and young adults,
    • Current state medical license,
    • DEA number, and
    • Completed and passed U.S. Medical Licensing Examination
    Special Requirements:
    • Must be able to meet the VCMC Medical Staff Credentialing requirements as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws
    • Board certification or Board eligibility in Pediatrics or Adolescent Medicine

    The County of Ventura was formed January 1, 1873, when it separated from Santa Barbara County.  It is a general law county, governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors, elected at-large for a staggered four year term in their respective districts, and the chairmanship rotates annually.  The Board of Supervisors is responsible for providing policy direction, approving the County budget, and representing the County in a number of areas including special districts.  The Board actions can apply countywide or only in unincorporated areas.

    Other County elected officials include the Auditor-Controller,  Assessor, Clerk/Recorder, District Attorney, Treasurer-Tax Collector, and Sheriff. The County Executive Officer advises, assists, and acts as an agent for the Board of Supervisors in all matters under the Board’s jurisdiction.

    Under the guidance of the Board of Supervisors, the approved County annual budget of $1.8 billion serves to assist vulnerable adults and children, enforce the law, ensure justice, protect public health, and improve our quality of life.  In alignment with key focus areas established in the County Strategic Plan, services are provided to residents by nearly 8,000 dedicated public servants working in 23 different agencies, departments and special districts.
