    Job Summary

    *This position is open to current CSU employees only.*

    The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education manages units and projects within Undergraduate Education that support student success in areas of curriculum development and review, assessment of learning, supported instruction, and high-impact practices. The Associate Dean takes full authority for the day-to-day implementation of the campus GE policy in collaboration with the Director of General Education, including GE Program assessment, development of any necessary exceptions at the student and program level, and evaluation of all student GE petitions. The Associate Dean approves and advises undergraduate Interdisciplinary Majors, and, as delegated by the Dean of Undergraduate Education, has final campus authority for undergraduate petitions associated with student academic progress.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Develop and revise appropriate petitions; review and make final decisions on student petitions; advise returning, probationary and disqualified students;
    • Consult with advisors, chairs, the registrar, associate deans, and other relevant offices about complex student cases
    • Provide leadership in development and implementation of GE Program policy, direction of GE program assessment including leading development of program learning outcomes, coordination with Director of General Education
    • Liase with General Education Advisory Committee
    • Review of GE courses and updates to established Guidelines
    • Provide leadership in monitoring and improving effectiveness of policies and procedures
    • Organize and oversee the work of the Council of Associate Deans and the Academic Disqualification & Reinstatement Review Committee (ADRRC)
    • Recommendation of posthumous degrees and certificates of achievement
    • Approval and advising of undergraduate Interdisciplinary Majors
    • Representing Undergraduate Education on student success related committees and projects as assigned
    • Supervise selected office staff
    • Outreach and support for students seeking reinstatement after academic disqualification, in collaboration with Undergraduate Advising & Success
    • Work with IRSA to develop data communication strategy for Associate Deans, Chairs, and faculty


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret policy and to consult effectively in resolving difficult student advisement problems across a spectrum of academic issues
    • Comprehensive knowledge or ability and eagerness to learn and understand the principles, practices, and procedures of Undergraduate Education
    • Advanced knowledge in facilitating undergraduate curriculum development, analysis, and assessment
    • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership
    • Facility with PeopleSoft and other campus databases and platforms
    • Demonstrated success in educating and training faculty and staff regarding academic and/or student progress policies and requirements
    • Public relations skills
    • Capacity to work quickly under pressure
    • Demonstrated successful ability in facilitating the education of students from a wide range of socio-cultural, language, education and ethnic backgrounds
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to operate department/unit as a team
    • Ability to accommodate multiple demands for commitment of time, energy and resources; adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands; and integrate change


    Required Qualifications
    • Doctorate Degree
    • Minimum of five years of experience as a faculty member with leadership responsibilities or academic administrator experience


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Acquired tenured status at the minimum level of Associate Professor
    • Management experience at the program or department level
    • Broad experience facilitating undergraduate curriculum development, program review and student outcomes assessment, including General Education
    • Demonstrated experience advising students and interpreting policy to solve complex advisement problems across a spectrum of academic issues
    • Experience with PeopleSoft Student Administration and other campus databases
    • Demonstrated experience developing or implementing student success programs and processes


    Compensation

    Classification: Administrator III
    Anticipated Hiring Range: $13,500/month - $15,846/month
    CSU Salary Range: $6,891/month - $22,119/month

    The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
