    Why you’ll love this position:

    The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Grain Inspection and Warehousing Division has several positions available forSeasonal Peanut Inspectors in Kennett, Missouri. An employee in this position performs semi-skilled manual work obtaining peanut samples, and performing basic technician and inspection functions. No prior experience is necessary.

    Pay

    • New employee base rate: $16.00 per hour
    • 1.5x overtime pay (hours worked over 40 each week)
    • Paid twice per month
    • Paid on-the-job training
    • Average employee working the whole season earned over $4,500 in 2024


    Schedule

    • Temporary work from early September to early November
    • Facility typically operates 7 am - 7 pm with extended hours and weekends through peak season
    • Scheduled days off


    Ideal candidates are consistently available for at least 3 full days throughout the week, and at least 1 full weekend day. Other availability will be considered.

    • Receives on-the-job training in the peanut sampling & inspection procedures
    • Obtains representative samples utilizing specified procedures through operation of machinery and manual devices
    • Assists inspectors in analyzing samples to determine factors of quality, condition, size, and/or moisture of peanuts
    • Completes handwritten work records in a legible manner
    • Completes electronic work records in an efficient, accurate manner
    • Performs basic math computations with a calculator
    • Maintains a clean work environment, including equipment
    • Performs other related work as assigned


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Possession of a high school diploma or GED/equivalent OR completion of tenth grade with some work experience
    • Reliable attendance & communication with supervisors
    • Reliable transportation to and from the inspection office in Kennett, MO


    Special Requirements

    • Individuals in this position will be working at a peanut facility and will be in direct contact with peanuts. Individuals with peanut allergies or those living with individuals with peanut allergies should consider the risks of this position.
    • Ability to perceive minor distinctions in color and odor
    • Ability to frequently lift a minimum of 15 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds to a height of five feet
    • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (>90% of duties)
    • Ability to work at a height of 25 feet while sampling (not required for all)
    • Ability to adapt to and work in an environment that may include factors such as noise, foul air, peanut dust, inclement weather, extreme heights and moving machinery.
    • Ability to understand and effectively follow instructions and established procedures.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and their employees, others in the trade, and the general public.
