About Our Job Denver Parks & Recreation's Active Older Adults (AOA) program engages adults ages 50+ in wellness, exercise, and leisure activities that support healthy aging. AOA programming includes aquatics, fitness, outdoor day trips, lunch trips, drop-in activities, clubs, arts & crafts, dance lessons and more! Active Older Adults is always looking for instructors to teach group classes related to wellness activities such as, but not limited to: meditation, Tai-Chi, Mindfulness and Qi-Gong. Instructors demonstrate proper techniques and methods for participants and observe participants to ensure appropriate, safe and fun enrichment.This position provides the opportunity to obtain part-time work making a positive impact on the lives of Denver's active older adults, while staying fit and taking part in the fun! Right now, we are specifically looking for the following positions: We are looking for one or more Tai Chi Instructors who are interested in substituting for current classes and/or helping us expand to more locations throughout the city. These classes primarily take place in the morning, however, other shifts are available based on recreation center need and instructor availability. Job responsibilities: Provides one-on-one personal training (certified) and instruction (certified) in group fitness classes such as Tai Chi, fall prevention classes, meditation, mindfulness based stress reduction, and more Demonstrates proper techniques and methods for participants. Observes participants and informs them of corrective measures Instructs a variety of fitness classes in formats such as: Tai Chi, fall prevention classes, meditation, mindfulness based stress reduction, and more Creates enthusiastic and energetic class environments while providing specific emphasis on safety and proper execution of movements Keeps current on all certifications and industry practices Maintains attendance records for classes; distributes and collects class evaluations as requested Answers participant questions and resolves issues, problems and conflicts. Maintains a clean and safe orderly work area By position, may complete lesson plans, incident report forms, time sheets, registration cards, and collect fees, where applicable Performs other related duties as assigned or requested NOTE: Applicants must include an attached PDF copy of their current certification in Tai Chi, Qi-Gong, Mindfulness, or Yoga (or attached verifiable proof of attainment such as confirmation email from institute) in order to be considered for the position. This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. About You We are looking for knowledgeable and enthusiastic health and wellness instructors who can provide engaging programming, with an eye for safety and fun! Our ideal candidate will possess: Certification as an instructor and/or trainer in Tai-Chi, Qi Gong, Fall Prevention, Meditation, Mindfulness or other health and wellness related program by a nationally recognized organization (such as ATCQA, MBSR, etc.) Current CPR/First Aid Certification Experience instructing health, wellness and/or fitness classes We realize that your time is valuable, so please do not apply unless you meet the following minimum qualifications: Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate Experience: A combination of appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements Licensure/Certification(s): Certification as an instructor and/or trainer in yoga, step aerobics, kick boxing, boot camp, hip-hop, interval training, sports performance, strength training, Pilates, Zumba, indoor cycling, core conditioning or any fitness area by a nationally recognized organization. Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or within six months hire date.
