This recruitment is to establish a hiring eligibility list of qualified candidates to fillexisting andfuture vacanciesfor full-time, regular-status positions. The list will be in effect for an initial six months and could be extended for an additional six months.
Accordingly, candidates interested in employment with the Contra Costa Water District in theUtility Workerand Utility Worker (Canal) classifications for the next 12 months should complete the required application and supplemental questionnaire.

The Utility Worker classifications work under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled, skilled and semi-skilled tasks required in the installation, repair and maintenance or constructionof the Contra Costa Canal and facilitiesgenerally within the boundaries of the District.
The duties of these classifications involve work which is physical in nature and requires familiarity with general laborer tasks. ome independent judgment and initiative is required. A Utility Worker and Utility Worker (Canal)may be required to operate some types of mobile and general construction equipment and vehicles, may work alone or as a member of a crew.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:
Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent. Experience:
Six months of employment in laboring work which has provided some familiarity with the operation and uses of light construction equipment, and/or hand and power tools common to a mechanical, metal or building trade.Relevant experience may be substituted for education, up to two years. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of the identification, use and operation of light construction equipment and common construction hand and power tools. Ability to perform physical work requiring manual dexterity, agility, physical coordination; to read, write, and speak English; to perform simple arithmetic; to understand and carry out verbal or written instructions; drive a vehicle with a manual transmission; and perform all work in a safe manner. Must be able to tactfully communicate with the general public. Other Requirements:
Must successfully pass a physical examination before employment with the District;have a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Stand-by, and work outside of normal working hours may be required. Must be in good physical condition for doing strenuous outdoor work under a variety of climatic and geographic conditions.
Possession of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to the next step in the selection process.All candidate materials will be carefully evaluated and only those considered best qualified will be invited to the next step in the selection process; the written examination.
Scores from the written exam will be blended with the scores from the applicationandsupplemental question responses. Candidates scoring the highest on the blended score will be invited to participate in the next step.
