This responsible position will work under the direction of a professional engineer to provide engineering services for the review and preparation of plans and contract specifications for road and drainage projects and for coordination, administration, and contract management of projects for the Public Works Department.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $52,582 - $71,531 (Starting salary dependent upon applicant's qualifications)

Duties and Responsibilities

Designing; development of construction working drawings and schedules including roadway and drainage plans for construction; developing construction cost estimates; reviewing engineering consultants and contractor's work on projects; preparation of environmental permits; project coordination; assisting with Stormwater plan review. Must be proficient in a high paced, pressure environment. Responsible for encroachment permitting in the public right-of-way for the County. Assists in County Engineer functions, as well as, assisting with Stormwater plan review.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education - Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.

Minimum Qualification - Experience in design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation techniques used on paved and earth roadways and bridges is preferred. Experience with AutoCad and ArcView preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The ability to maintain effective relationships with contractors, consultants, state and municipal officials, and the general public is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong work ethics and an ability to balance numerous projects at once is required. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training is preferred. Applicant is expected to work towards licensure as a Professional Engineer in South Carolina. A valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a South Carolina license upon acceptance of position is required.
