Job Description

Several seasonal and part-time positions available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Greg Klice Community Center located at 1600 John Buck O'Neil Way and Tony Aguirre Community Center located at 2520 W. Pennway
Salary Range: $12.50 - $14.28/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Various shifts including days, evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

Patrols and observes swimming pool areas. Prevents ball playing, tag games, fighting, and other infractions of rules around the pools and maintains order. Rescues swimmers who are tired or having difficulties. Applies artificial respiration or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), if necessary; administers first aid to cuts and other injuries suffered by swimmers. Teaches or assists in teaching swimming and life saving techniques; officiates at water contests and exhibitions. Assists in sweeping, mopping, and picking up refuse in assigned pool areas and buildings Assists in maintaining records of work activities and daily participation; assists in preparation of activity reports as necessary.


Qualifications

MUST be at least 16 years of age and have of a current lifeguard certificate or shallow water lifeguarding certificate as issued by the American Red Cross, Ellis, StarGuard, or the YMCA. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

For positions requiring college education as part of the minimum requirement and/or an equivalency, the minimum education requirement is high school graduation. The requirement of "high school graduation" also includes the state-issued GED certificate.

For positions that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional, responsible experience must be obtained AFTER receipt of the accredited degree.

Unless otherwise stated, the requirement of "an accredited" degree includes only those degrees obtained from colleges or universities listed with the U. S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
