Position Summary*
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Life & Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for carrying out a wide range of duties requiring both overall and specialized knowledge of student advising, student services, student development, student activities and events, and student outcome assessments. The incumbent's primary objective is to support enrollment and retention at the University by providing students with well-balanced co-curricular experiences, including but not limited to implementation of large campus-wide events for incoming students, advocating a lively campus life experience, promoting student involvement and student engagement opportunities, and providing leadership in crisis management, crisis response, and proactive crisis mitigation. The Assistant Dean will act with the authority of the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students in their absence when designated as such.

Position Information
The Assistant Dean of Students serves as an advocate for students by representing the needs of students to University staff, faculty, and administrators, including providing direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis situations; coordinating services and resources; assisting with the administration of the student code of conduct and of CSU Executive Orders 1095/1096/1097/1098; working with University staff and faculty to resolve student problems; mediating and resolving conflict; and student referrals.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & OVERSIGHT
The Assistant Dean of Students is also responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the New Student Programs Office, including New Student Orientation, week of welcome activities (GatorFest!), First-Year Experience, Parent & Families Program (future), and various transition programs for students, parents, and families. The incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating a comprehensive program that delivers a wide range of student leadership training and event planning services to students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as programs and services that promote the successful transition of new students into the University community and maximize their likelihood of persistence into the second year. The incumbent develops administrative oversight and strategic planning for these functional/programmatic areas, and is responsible for their successful operation. This includes planning, implementing and evaluating programs within New Student Programs; fiduciary responsibility for the overall programs; and oversight of the technological and infrastructural operations. Further, the incumbent serves as the campus expert on new student orientation, transition, and retention programs that include peer-mentorship and curriculum development. The incumbent is further charged with managing the department's programs that include all new student programs inclusive of the first-year experience and orientation. The incumbent serve as a member and in leadership capacities for a number of campus-wide committees focused on orientation, first-year experience, and student success areas.

POLICY DEVELOPMENT & PROGRAM DELIVERY
The Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for developing and enforcing Student Affairs & Enrollment Management (SAEM) and University policies as they relate to students and student life. This position works collaboratively with SAEM leadership to develop student-focused initiatives that strengthen co-curricular learning. As a member of the Division of Student Life leadership team, the incumbent also contributes to, supports, and promotes activities, programs and services that enhance the student life experience and foster student development in out-of-classroom settings.

STAFF SUPERVISION & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
The Assistant Dean of Students is responsible for fostering competence in others through effective coaching, mentoring, and performance management of professional and student leader staff.

SPECIAL PROJECTS & DIVISIONAL SUPPORT
The Assistant Dean of Students coordinates special projects for the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students as assigned and may develop, draft and disseminate reports, papers and other media publications to support Division of Student Life goals and priorities, including but not limited to:
- Coordinate submissions for division-wide annual reports and other similar administrative, assessment, policy and procedural documents on behalf of the Division as it relates to programs and functions, or as directed by the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students;
- Respond to media inquiries, as appropriate, as a Division of Student Life spokesperson;
- Monitor, maintain and update the divisional and departmental webpages;
- Facilitate development and implementation of student life and leader competencies, as well as a co-curricular tracking system;
- In consultation with the AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students, assist with providing leadership, management, and support to the Division of Student Life units, functions and programs, including via delegated authority as needed.

Minimum Qualifications*
Required
- Master's Degree, preferably in Student Personnel Services, Student Development, Higher Education, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible student activities/student services work and experience within a University setting working with highly complex issues and situations.
- Experience with student conduct and crisis intervention.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact effectively and exert leadership with a wide variety of students, faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated background in leading collaborative efforts between multiple constituencies including faculty, staff, students, and members of the local community.
- Demonstrated understanding of underrepresented groups and initiatives that enhance efforts to attract, retain and graduate students.
- Experience and commitment to working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience in higher education working with services and events that contribute to student orientation programs.
- Ability to perform complex student services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance in individual and group settings.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, determine priorities, multi-task, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to establish metrics and assess goals which measure effectiveness of contributions.
- Ability to work with sensitive issues and confidential records and materials.
- Experience in program administration, including developing events and programs, leadership development workshops, and trainings.
- Successful experience supervising and evaluating employees, resolving conflicts, and encouraging a diverse staff to work well together, particularly in a collective bargaining environment.
- Strong computer and technical writing skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
