Job Description

Definition and Class Characteristics Nevada County in California seeks an individual to join our Information Systems Analyst team.  Join this dynamic environment supporting business applications, data integration, Business Intelligence and Analytics  for 50+ county entities. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical foundation in addition to skills in project management, business analysis, requirements gathering, and software evaluation. Strong troubleshooting and discovery skills through self-guided research, SQL, Windows Server and IIS Administration, data integration, business intelligence reporting tools, SSIS, process automation on the K2 Platform, and SharePoint administration are all highly desired technical skills.
Under general supervision, researches, recommends, designs, codes, tests, implements and maintains information systems for business processes; works closely with users and others in the analysis, development, implementation and use of applications; prepares and maintains program documentation and training materials; analyzes, creates and organizes information and applications for enterprise and public electronic distribution, and performs related work as required.
 
This is the first working level in the professional IS Analyst series.  Incumbents initially work under closer supervision on assignments of narrower scope and limited complexity.  As experience and proficiency is gained, there is greater independence of action and increased scope and complexity of assignments.  IS Analyst I is flexibly staffed with IS Analyst II, and incumbents normally advance to the higher level upon demonstration of the required proficiency and skills, and satisfying the experience requirements.

Examples of Duties Essential:
  • Works with users to define requirements; analyzes, and researches existing methods and applications, designs and implements solutions for clients
  • Researches system and application code requirements
  • Designs logical, database and physical specifications
  • Researches and resolves production problems using debugging tools
  • Tests, debugs, and upgrades applications for new and existing software releases
  • Installs, adapts and integrates new software packages into existing systems
  • Prepares test strategies for system and program quality assurance
  • Creates, maintains and modifies user and system procedures and technical documentation
  • Responds to user inquiries, assists users in software research and selection, and provides technical training (including developing materials and curricula) in the correct usage of applications
  • Coordinates with other team members (database administrator, IS analysts, GIS analysts network administrator, users) to solve problems and support and coordinate implementation of client systems
  • Maintains the integrity of program code for an assigned program or area.   Develops and/or modifies applications and enterprise information for public eGovernment-related purposes.
  • Supports users in assuring data integrity
  • Monitors project schedules and work requests utilizing project management best practices, coordinate with customer department management and staff, report project status to management and prepare internal and external project reports
  • Research and prepare technical and administrative reports, prepare written correspondence, review reports, research written documentation to resolve problems

Education and Experience Required A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with course work in computer science, information technology, business administration or a related field; or two years of course work plus two years of experience comparable to Nevada County's classification of Information Systems Analyst Trainee.
