As one of Connecticut’s oldest municipalities, Glastonbury is dedicated to preserving its numerous parks, historic sites, and riverfront property and supports a highly active community of over 35,000 residents. Comprising roughly 51 square miles on the east bank of the Connecticut River, Glastonbury is also one of the largest Towns in the state. The Town is rich with culture, attractions, and thriving business, and is recognized as a prosperous suburban community to the capital city of Hartford. Its central location offers convenient access to all the Northeast’s major cities and it is only a short drive away from the Bradley International Airport. It is easily accessible from nearby I-91, I-84, and State Route 2. Glastonbury is proud to be well-known for its excellent municipal management, outstanding public education, historic character, and exceptionally high quality of life. The Town of Glastonbury operates under a Council-Manager form of government with the Town Council comprised of nine bipartisan members who are elected every two years by the registered voters in town. The Town Council appoints a Town Manager who serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Town who is responsible for oversight and administration of all day-to-day operation of municipal functions with the exception of the Board of Education.
