JOB SUMMARY Performs a wide array of semi-skilled tasks that support and provide refuse collection and disposal and recycle services to supplement and support the general mission of providing a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly community. As assigned, performs equipment operation work for operating complex, specialized automotive equipment along an established route on a production schedule and performs other Public Works maintenance activities as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of the department Superintendent, Construction Maintenance Supervisor or designated person. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None generally. May supervise temporary employees, community service workers, and DOC Inmate workers as directed, or as assigned by Superintendent. Assists with clean-up operations at accidents, spills and other emergency situations. Assists with other divisions and departments in water/utility related activities; assists with Blue Staking; cleans drainage ditches, storm drain pipe and catch basins. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Performs pre and post trip equipment according to CDL requirements. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Senior Solid Waste Operator average total compensation (salary + benefits) is $81,800.00. The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Senior Solid Waste Operator to fill multiple vacancies in the Solid Waste Collection Division of the Public Works Department . The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. The Senior Solid Waste Operator drives and operates equipment and performs manual labor in the daily collection of trash and recyclable and green waste materials for the City. Provides customer service, identifies and reports damaged containers, and regularly operates automated or roll off trucks. The City will pay a$3,000 hiring bonus to new employees in this classification (external hires or transfers from other divisions only). The hiring bonus will be paid as follows: a) a one-time $1,500 sign-on bonus with the new employee's first paycheck; and b) a one-time $1,500 retention bonus with the first paycheck after the completion of the probationary period. Respond to hazmat clean up and fluid spills; adhere and apply safety standards; perform weekly homeless camp clean ups and maintenance. Clean, monitor, and provide general maintenance for assigned vehicle daily.
