The City of Irvine seeks a flexible and customer focused individual with a knowledge and understanding of traffic signal timing to serve as a Part-Time Engineering Technician in the Traffic Management Center (TMC). This position is Part-Time and hours may vary throughout the year dependent on projects and assignments.

Your Impact- Operate in the TMC to facilitate safe and efficient movement for roadway users.
- Continuously monitor traffic flow in the vicinity of events and construction zones and determine when and where it is significantly impacted.
- Determine the appropriate signal timing flush plans to improve traffic flow; implement timing and phasing changes.
- Investigate traffic related issues and dispatch field personnel.
- Support the Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) including the fiber optic and network equipment.

Minimum Qualifications- Associate's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Three years general engineering experience.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- May require a valid California driver's license.
Best Fit- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication and customer service skills as well as the ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks, track details and work well under pressure.
- Team player and ability to work with staff to complete tasks and projects.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes after normal City business hours that may extend past midnight, weekends and holidays.
- Experience working in a TMC and traffic signal systems.

The
Public Works & Sustainability Department combines the strengths of Administration & Planning, Park Development, Transportation Planning & Mobility, Infrastructure Maintenance & Operations, Capital Project Delivery, and Sustainability & Environmental Programs to create a unified approach to infrastructure management and sustainability. City assets include streetscapes, open space, City parks (community and neighborhood), athletic fields, bike trails, roadways, traffic signals, and more. The Capital Improvement Program has an annual delivery of $100 million in capital projects, in addition to the delivery of the globally relevant Great Park.
