THE POSITION:
The incumbent performs professional accounting duties in the preparation of financial reports and/or statements, in the development, review and maintenance of a department’s accounting, cost, and other financial reporting systems that meet Federal, State and local requirements, in the collection and interpretation of financial information, and in the analysis of financial records; monitors department financial systems to identify problems, recommend changes and take corrective action to maintain integrity of the department’s accounting systems. Employees in this class are expected to exercise sound professional judgment in the interpretation of Federal, State, local and general accounting policies.

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, finance, accounting or a closely related field, which must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units in Accounting and/or Auditing.

Experience: Two years of professional accounting experience

Note: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate may be substituted for the education requirement.

A Bachelor’s degree including specific units or a CPA license is required for this position. All candidates must submit a copy of their official/unofficial transcripts (verifying institution, student, date, degree and area of specialization conferred and 12 semester or 18 quarter units in Accounting and/or Auditing) or CPA certificate by the final filing deadline. Candidates who fail to submit their transcripts or CPA certification by the final filing date may be disqualified from the recruitment.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Candidates who attended a college or university that is accredited by a foreign or non-U.S. accrediting agency must have their educational units evaluated by an educational evaluation service. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Some positions in this class will require the applicant to possess a valid California driver’s license, Class C, by the time of appointment. Employees must keep their licenses, certifications and registrations current and failure to do so may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Independent Travel: Some positions in this class will require employees to travel independently, for example, to perform work at other work sites, to attend meetings with other County employees, etc.

Hours of Work: Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, on-call, and after normal business hours.

Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE POINTS:

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE (or APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE). Applicants who have a service connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score.
