    Chesterfield County, Virginia (Richmond-Metro Area), a recognized leader and award-winning local government, is seeking a strategic, trauma informed Director of Juvenile Justice Services to lead a comprehensive continuum serving court involved youth and juvenile victims across Chesterfield County and the City of Colonial Heights. 

  • Job Description

    The director will provide vision, policy leadership, and operational oversight for a multifaceted juvenile justice services network. The Director ensures compliance with Virginia regulations and national standards, advances best practice models, and fosters strong collaboration with the 12th District Court Service Units (12th CSU), the J&DR Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney, schools, social services, mental health, and law enforcement partners.  The director is expected to:

     

    • Oversee the daily operations of detention home, community-based programs, and child advocacy center.  Directly supervising Deputy Director, CAC Administrator, CAC Administrator, CARP Administrator, Administrative Supervisor, and Senior Mental Health Clinician.
    • Ensure programs are operating in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and statues.
    • Develop annual operating and capital budgets, to include development of five-year major maintenance plan as well as any additional operational funding requests.
    • Serve as Plan Administrator and Plan Contact for the Virginia Juvenile Community Crime Control Act (VJCCCA) programs. Developing biennial plan in collaboration with team members and required stakeholders to provide a range of data driven, evidence-informed continuum of community based juvenile justice programs, including alternatives to detention
    • Ensure compliance with monthly data and financial reporting requirements
    • Collaborate with stakeholders and partners by regularly meeting, communicating important information, problem-solving any issues, and ensuring annual MOUs or contracts are current.  Partnerships and or contracts include J&DR Court judges, CSU, MHSS, Employee Medical Center, and Chesterfield County Public Schools who operate a fully accredited school within the detention home.
    • Represent department within Chesterfield County and statewide.
  • Job Requirements

    Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a psychology, sociology, public administration, criminal justice, counseling or a related field.  Advanced degree and/or professional certification is desirable.   A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in juvenile justice management, including secure custody facility experience, with five to seven years in an administrative leadership capacity.  Good driving record, pre-employment drug test and extensive background check required.
