DescriptionThe Marketing Manager is responsible for executing and managing Charleston County Economic Development’s marketing and communications initiatives to support business attraction, expansion, and investment. This position plays a key role in translating strategy into high-quality marketing deliverables that position Charleston County’s competitive advantages to site selectors, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
The Marketing Manager works independently on assigned projects while collaborating closely with internal team members, County departments, and external partners to ensure consistent messaging, professional presentation, and timely delivery of marketing initiatives.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $60,840 - $79,684 Starting salary will be commensurate with experience within the posted range.OPEN UNTIL FILLED, APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELY
Duties and ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:•Execute and manage marketing initiatives supporting economic development strategies, including digital, print, and event-based efforts.
•Develop, manage, and publish content across social media platforms, email newsletters, and the website.
•Coordinate development of marketing materials such as presentations, reports, publications, trade show collateral, and branded assets.
•Lead public announcements and media coordination, including press releases and consistent messaging across all channels.
•Maintain and manage the Economic Development website to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with brand standards.
•Plan and execute events, including industry conferences, trade shows, site visits, FAM tours, and community outreach initiatives.
•Assist with video and multimedia projects by coordinating content development, vendors, and deployment.
•Monitor media coverage and industry news relevant to economic development and target sectors.
•Collaborate with internal County departments, regional partners, consultants, and vendors to ensure cohesive messaging and efficient project execution.
•Track and report marketing performance metrics, including digital engagement, campaign results, and outreach effectiveness.
•Develop and implement annual operational plans aligned with departmental goals, incorporating strategic metrics to measure engagement and program performance.
Minimum Qualifications•Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Economic Development, Business, Public Relations, or a related field.
•Minimum of three years or more of professional experience in marketing, communications, economic development, or a related field.
•Proven ability to manage digital content, marketing materials, and communications projects independently.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and brand consistency.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and marketing-related tools and platforms.
•Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
•Knowledge of marketing best practices, branding principles, and social media strategy.
•Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPreferred Qualification:•Experience in economic development, public sector, government, or place-based marketing.
•Proficiency in managing website content management systems, email marketing platforms, and digital analytics tools.
•Experience supporting events, stakeholder engagement, and external communications initiatives.
