    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of a Sustainability Program Manager, this position performs moderately complex (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work and is responsible for performing support work and technical assistance involving planning and implementing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Sustainability Program statewide. Work involves developing and evaluating programs that support agency sustainability efforts and goals by providing support and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and/or the public. May train others. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use if initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree or higher.

    Experience:

    One year experience in sustainability-related program implementation, which may include environmental education, energy conservation/renewable energy systems, waste and recycling, water conservation, or air quality;

    One year's experience producing reports and presentations;

    One year's experience in training and marketing methods, including creating social media content.

    Note: Experience may have occurred concurrently.

    Licensure:

    Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license;

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, accreditation as U.S. Green Building Council LEED Associate.

    Note: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses, certifications, and accreditations.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

    Education:

    One additional year of full-time experience in sustainability-related program implementation, which may include environmental education, energy conservation/renewable energy systems, waste and recycling, water conservation, or air quality may substitute for thirty semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree with major coursework in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Energy/Water Conservation, Waste Diversion, or closely related field.

    Experience:

    Two years' experience in sustainability-related program implementation, which may include environmental education, energy conservation/renewable energy systems, waste and recycling, water conservation, or air quality;

    Two years' experience in producing reports and presentations;

    Two years' experience in training and marketing methods, including creating social media content.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of:

    Local, state, and federal laws related to the program area.

    Public administration techniques.

    Training and marketing techniques.

    Program management processes and techniques.

    Research techniques.

    Sustainable practices (i.e., efficiency, water conservation, waste minimization, air quality, etc.).

    Skill in:

    Identifying measures or indicators of program performance.

    Working with personnel at all levels of the organization and building effective working relationships.

    Gathering information and producing professional reports.

    Verbal and written communication.

    Creating social media content.

    Ability to:

    Gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.

    Devise solutions to problems.

    Administer and market programs.

    Prepare reports.

    Develop, evaluate, and interpret policies and procedures.

    Communicate effectively.

    Speak in public and to small and large audiences.

    Research new ideas, products, and techniques.

    Provide guidance to others.

    Conduct work activity in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Required to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday;

    Required to work overtime, as necessary;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

    Required to travel 15% with possible overnight stays;

    May be required to operate a State vehicle;

    Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
