Overview
Lifeguards are the most important individuals in the prevention and management of safety for guests at our aquatic facilities. Lifeguards enforce rules and regulations to keep facilities safe and fun for everyone. The incumbent also helps in the safety of patrons by preparing the facility for use before opening to public or private groups to ensure facility is acceptable for use. This position will also aid in the management of the facility by verifying water chemistry is safe for swimming using testing kits, then entering results from tests into the facility log. As a team, lifeguards also maintain the cleanliness of facility while in use. This position also assists customers with questions about the facility and its programming, provides information on facility hours, features, and rules over the phone and in person.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for the safety of guests at aquatic facilities
• Scans areas of the pool, pool deck, and the facility for unsafe conditions or behavior, and takes appropriate action to reduce the risk of an incident or emergency, enforces facility rules and regulations
• Responds to minor and major emergencies providing an accountable and professional standard of care
• Displays the conduct and image appropriate to the position of a rescue professional
• Assists patrons with entrance into the facility, collects fees and checks passes
• Helps customers with questions about the facility and its programming, provides information on facility hours, features, and rules over the phone and in person
• Sets pools in appropriate configuration for scheduled programming
• Prepares facility for use before opening to the public or private groups
• Verifies water chemistry is safe for swimming using testing kits, enters results from tests into facility's log
• Maintains the cleanliness of the facility while in use
• Monitors environmental weather conditions for hazards
• Identifies hazards and communicate them to supervisor
• Collects and removes trash, prepares, reports and deposits, secures and closes facilities
• Assists with the maintenance of facilities and grounds as needed, including painting, trash removal, mowing, adding pool chemicals, brushing, vacuuming, netting, and cleaning of pool, minor repairs, installations or removal of features, equipment, and signage
• Attends regularly scheduled training sessions and audits, demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to perform rescue, first aid, and emergency responses skills during scheduled or random audits
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt-Temp-Part-Time- 6-10 hours a week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED or current student
• No prior experience is required
• Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• Must be able to pass swim test provided by the city before job assignment
• No prior certifications are required for the job. If hired, applicants must pass lifeguarding class provided by the city

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
