    Description:

    The District Court Deputy District Attorney (DDA) carries out the charges and obligations of the District Attorney and represents the People of the State of Colorado on felony cases in Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Develops a felony caseload from initial arrest to trial and sentencing. Collaborates with victims, law enforcement, attorneys, and district attorney staff to achieve just outcomes, further the goals of the District Attorney, and fulfill all statutory, constitutional, and ethical obligations of a prosecutor.

    District Court DDAs have less than eight years relevant experience and Senior DDAs have more than eight years relevant experience. This position will be a District Court DDA or Senior DDA depending on experience.

    COMPENSATION:

    The successful applicant with less than 8 years of total relevant experience will be titled Deputy District Attorney, District Court, at an annual salary range of $106,000 - $156,000, depending on experience.The successful applicant with 8 or more years of total relevant experience, three of which include felony prosecution in the state of Colorado, will be titled Senior Deputy District Attorney, at an annual salary range of $127,000 - $184,000, depending on experience.

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Represents the People of the State of Colorado in jury trials and other matters occurring in the District Court in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.


    • Supervises development of felony criminal cases from initial arrest through trial, sentencing, and any post-trial matters, including legal research, professional correspondence, and composition of legal documents including motions, opinions, briefs, and other pleadings as required .


    • Communicates trial readiness and case dispositions with victims, law enforcement partners, district attorney staff, and other stakeholders. Demonstrate the essential trial skills involved in jury selection, opening statements, direct and cross-examination and closing arguments.


    • Proactively coordinates with law enforcement partners to ensure flow of information and compliance with discovery obligations.


    • Exercises discretion in charging, case dispositions, and sentencing recommendations in a manner that displays fluency in evidence-based practices, safeguards our community, and reduces unequitable treatment of justice-involved individuals.


    • May be assigned to appear in Gilpin County on criminal matters.


    • May be assigned to specialized roles including prosecution of juvenile offenders, problem-solving courts, intake, appeals, economic crimes, or grand jury.


    • Additional duties include approximately one week per year serving as 24-hour on-call legal support to law enforcement and responding to the scenes of active investigations pursuant to office guidance and approximately one instance per year conducting bond hearings on either a Saturday or a Sunday.


    • Other duties as assigned.
