Overview The position exists to maintain the airport in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The position maintains the airfield grass within specified heights, maintains and repairs concrete and asphalt pavement to FAA specifications, maintains airfield markings, deletes markings and places new markings per FAA specifications, maintains safety areas to FAA specifications. They maintain the airport drainage ditches, assist the landside staff on mowing and assist the airport mechanic in minor equipment repairs.
Responsibilities - Fills in ruts, level humps, remove edge dams and maintain pavement edge drop offs to less than three inches
- Trims grass around lights and guidance signs so that they are visible to pilots and vehicles operators on the paved surfaces
- Paints marking on the runways, taxiways and aprons per FAA specifications. Remove markings when needed
- Maintains thermoplastic markings per manufacturer's specifications
- Repairs concrete and asphalt on the taxiways, runways, aprons and service roads per FAA specifications
- Sweeps pavement to remove debris that can cause damage to aircraft
- Performs repairs to the airfield perimeter fence and gates
- Fills in animal holes under the fence to decrease wildlife hazards on the airport
- Prevents vegetation growth in the fence line to maintain sight lines per Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations
- Mows ditches and perform vegetation control to discourage wildlife using the ditches
- Grades ditch bottoms to ensure water flow
- Removes silt from concrete lined ditches for water quality and proper drainage
- Removes trees and brush from ditches
- Performs daily inspections and servicing of equipment before and after use
- Performs preventative and minor equipment repairs with the airport mechanic as needed to ensure the equipment is operating properly
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work - Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
- Must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma / GED
- Two (2) years' experience
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements Required - A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
- Airport identification issued after a fingerprint based criminal history record check

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
