    Description

    The City is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to lead construction inspection for Public Works infrastructure projects. This position is a critical role in ensuring that City capital improvement projects are constructed safely, accurately, and in compliance with approved plans, specifications, and regulations. Working under the general direction of the Construction Inspection Superintendent, this role provides both hands-on technical expertise and supervisory leadership throughout the construction phase of complex infrastructure and facility projects.

    This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for the Construction Inspection Supervisor, which will expire on January 12, 2027.

    Your Impact
    • Oversee and perform complex field inspections for public works, private development, and capital improvement projects within the public right-of-way (ROW), including grading, streets, utilities, traffic signals, landscaping, public buildings, and related infrastructure.
    • Ensure construction activities in the ROW and on City or private property comply with approved plans, specifications, permits, contracts, codes, and safety requirements.
    • Supervise, train, and mentor construction inspection staff; evaluate performance, identify staffing needs, and provide guidance on ROW inspection standards and procedures.
    • Review and approve construction changes, test results, consultant invoices, progress payments, ROW construction variances, and inspection of overtime requests.
    • Coordinate and ensure proper traffic control, pedestrian access, and public safety throughout active construction zones within the ROW.
    • Lead coordination of construction activities among City departments, contractors, developers, utilities, consultants, and outside agencies to resolve ROW-related issues and maintain project schedules.
    • Participate in pre-construction meetings and assist with contract administration, policy development, and project acceptance for projects impacting the public ROW.
    • Prepare and present inspection-related training, reports, and documentation related to ROW construction compliance and best practices.

    Best Fit
    • An experienced construction inspection professional with extensive knowledge of public ROW construction and private development infrastructure projects.
    • Proven ability to supervise inspection staff while independently performing the most complex and challenging inspections within the ROW.
    • Strong working knowledge of construction codes, standards, regulations, permitting requirements, and safety practices applicable to ROW work and public works construction.
    • Demonstrated experience interpreting plans, specifications, permits, and contracts related to ROW improvements and applying sound judgement to field decisions.
    • Effective communicator who can collaborate with contractors, engineers, utility companies, consultants, City staff, and the public to resolve ROW-related issues professionally.
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple ROW projects, approvals, variances, and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Proficient in using computers and related software to maintain inspection records, review construction data, and prepare reports.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Associate's degree in construction technology or inspection.
    • Six (6) or more years of technical field engineering or inspection experience including supervision.
    • Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • A valid California driver's license.

The Capital Improvement Program has an annual delivery of $100 million in capital projects, in addition to the delivery of the globally relevant Great Park.
