Job Description:Purpose:Under general supervision, this position leads and performs tasks in repair, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and circuits.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Pulls wire, conduit, cable, etc.
- Connects power cables to equipment, including generators, alarm systems, lighting systems, etc.
- Conducts on-the-job training. Assigns duties and monitor task completion.
- Uses various electrician hand tools, including snips, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, etc.
- Operates soldering tools.
- Reads profiles and blueprints.
- Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit using rulers and hand tools.
- Installs wire, conduit, coaxial cable, etc. Installs conductors.
- Splices electrical wiring, including stripping insulation, twisting wires together, soldering tape, appling terminal caps, etc.
- Operates various power saws, such as radial arm, skill, etc.
- Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc.
- Operates electronic testing equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of basic electricity.
- Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of building codes applicable to level of construction.
- Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction.
- Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics
Minimum Qualifications: - Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years' experience in repair, testing, maintenance or installation or electrical systems or equipment.
- One (1) additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for one (1) year of the required education, with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:Appropriate licensing may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience maintaining electrical systems within an large commercial or industrial facility.
- Experience maintaining emergency generators uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems or electric vehicle charging stations.
- Experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to travel
- Texas Journeyman Electrical License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Notes to Candidate:Position Overview:Performing tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of the AUS electrical systems, to include air field lighting, monitoring & controls. Respond to electrical emergencies and customer service request; assist with identifying and resolving electrical issues and repairs; perform preventative and remedial maintenance activities. Assist with the review and oversight of electrical work that is performed by tenants, contractors, and consultants.
Assessment:A skills assessment will be required for this position.
Salary Range:
$27.77 - $33.95
Travel:This position requires traveling to multiple sites as part of the regular job duties. A driving record verification will be conducted. If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
Essential Personnel: This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled.

Work Hours:Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday- 4:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- 2:30 PM - 1:00 AM
Monday - Friday- 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM
Hours may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.Shift Incentive: Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends
On-Call/Call Back Responsibilities: Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.
