    Supports the Building Services Manager in managing all aspects of a single property or portfolio of properties including operational and financial activities.

    The Building Services Assistant Manager will lead and support a diverse team responsible for building maintenance, minor construction, and custodial operations. This role oversees skilled trades including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, ensuring all services meet City of Austin policies and standards. The Building Servies Assistant Manager will coordinate vendor contracts, conduct property inspections, respond to occupant needs, and contribute to budget planning and long-term operational strategies. A strong commitment to safety, compliance, and effective problem-solving is essential.

    Monday- Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Hours may vary depending on work demands and business needs.
    • Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.
    • This position is Exempt from overtime.
    • Work location will vary

    Pay Range:

    $57,970.00 -$70,720.00

    Job Description:

    Purpose:

    Supports the Building Services Manager in managing all aspects of a single property or portfolio of properties including operational and financial activities.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Directs and provides support to the Building Services staff by performing cross-functional duties as necessary.
    • Coordinates and supervises the activities of division consisting of skill craft positions including plumbing, electrical, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), etc., involved in minor construction, building maintenance, and related activities as well as the activities of the Building and Grounds (or Custodial) staff assigned to building portfolio.
    • Responds to occupant needs and ensures that administrative, building, technical, and custodial staff resolves problems.
    • Ensures that all services provided to properties are in compliance with City of Austin (COA) and Building Services policies, procedures, regulations, and contractual obligations and standards.
    • Conducts periodic property inspections, recommending and/or approving alterations, maintenance, and reconditioning.
    • Coordinates contracts for and oversees vendor services.
    • Provides recommendations and assists in the development of short- and long-range plans.
    • Assists in the development of property and departmental budget, and monitors budget expenditures.
    • Fosters COA and departmental safety culture and enforces safety rules.
    • Writes technical reports.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience related to the field, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity.
    • One (1) additional year of education may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.


    Preferred Qualification:
    • Certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, in one or more of the following: Real Property Administrator (RPA), IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), Certified Property Manager (CPM), Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP), Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification, or other green building professional credentials.
    • Professional facilities management experience in a municipal setting.
    • Budget development experience as it is related to the facilities field.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

    Driving Requirement (if applicable):

    Travel:
    • If the position requires travel, you must meet Driver Safety Program standards, Otherwise, you are responsible for transportation to and from multiple job sites as needed.

    Work Conditions:

    City Government
