    With limited supervision, guides City departments requiring business systems or related architectural analysis through the enterprise architecture process. Contributes in the planning of the overall organization Information Technology (IT) Strategy. Develops, maintains, and leverages the department enterprise architecture practice to ensure optimal selection and use of technology to support business objectives.

    Job Description:

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Implement enterprise architecture practices and principles.
    • Leads and coordinates the pursuit of technical business information needs, governing principles, and solution architecture viewpoints.
    • Works with business partners and IT to develop and tract strategic technology roadmaps.
    • Develops and oversees architecture implementation including documentation of an enterprise architecture framework.
    • Leads enterprise architecture team to identify and analyze business needs for future innovative technology, develops solution architecture requirements, and determines potential impact of technology solution.
    • Ensures governance structure and compliance activities are in place to allow multi-stakeholder participation and agreement in finding solutions.
    • Analyzes current business and IT environments and recommends solutions for improvement.
    • Leads and facilitates the creation of governing principles to guide solution decision-making.
    • Socializes the enterprise architecture practice within the department through collaboration, communication, and training across all business units.
    • Develops long term partnerships with department business units and vendors to facilitate collaboration in the development strategic business plans.


    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

    Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Information/Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or related field, plus six (6) years of experience in an architecture-related field, including two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    None

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Extensive IT solution architecture experience.
    • Demonstrated experience of utility business processes and operations.
    • Experience with data application architectures.
    • Experience with technology architectures.
    • Extensive experience and demonstrated knowledge of EA frameworks.
    • Experience developing and implementing business-aligned IT strategic plans.
    • Knowledge and/or experience with evolving IT technologies, including cloud infrastructure, securing networking, Digital Customer Experience, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Customer Energy Data Collection and Processing, Work and Asset Management systems.
    • Experience developing and maintaining strategic relationships with senior management.
    • EA certification(s) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

    Austin Energy (AE) is seeking a Lead Enterprise Architect to develop, maintain, and leverage AE’s enterprise architecture to ensure optimal selection and use of technology to support AE’s business objectives.

    The IT Enterprise Architect Sr. is responsible for the establishment, development and implementation of architectures and frameworks and is responsible for the development of solution architecture deliverables and approaches. This position guides enterprise architecture (EA) reviews, gains acceptance of solutions, and informs key stakeholders of review outcomes. The senior EA demonstrates technology leadership to include interacting and discussing subject area with vendors and consultants, providing architectural leadership and architectural direction to IT and AE business units, and promoting EA process improvement. Duties include supervising other EAs, advising, coaching and mentoring other senior technologists as well as overseeing architectural governance.

    Pay Range: Entry: $121,600 - $156,300 USD annually

    Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    TRAVEL:

    If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    WORK HOURS:

    This position has been designated as critical for the City of Austin. Critical positions are necessary and vital and support activities that impact City or department operations. Work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees may be reassigned to another area to provide essential services to support any extraordinary situations or emergency conditions.

    VETERAN INTERVIEW PREFERENCE:

    Military/Veterans must provide a copy of their DD214 verifying honorable discharge, at the time of initial interview to receive military/veteran interview preference.

    CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK:

    This position requires a criminal background investigation and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) clearance.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government.
