About the OpportunityThe City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of
Management Technician I/II (Promotional Only).
The Management Technician I/II provides essential technical and administrative support to the Ventura Police Department, helping ensure efficient daily operations. This position supports training programs, compliance reporting, personnel administration, and a variety of administrative tasks. By managing data, reporting, and coordination across units, this role directly contributes to the department’s goals, regulatory compliance, and quality service to the community, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our critical law enforcement operations.
The Management Technician classification is flexibly staffed, and the vacancy may be filled at either the I or II level, depending on individual qualifications and the needs of the City.
What You'll DoAs a Management Technician I/II, you will provide support across several key operational areas, including:
Training CoordinationCoordinate employee training activities, including registration, logistics, and travel arrangements. Process spend authorizations and expense reports, maintain internal POST course certification records, and track training compliance. Manage firearm qualification data entry and ensure accurate documentation of training files.
Data Management & ReportingCompile and prepare departmental data for internal and external use, including Department of Justice required reporting. Assist with Public Records Act requests, generate the Ventura County Medical Center clearance time report, and manage the City’s False Alarm Program and related data.
Personnel AdministrationSubmit and monitor Workers’ Compensation claims, maintain medical files, and support personnel file management. Assist with personnel-related tasks in Workday, including processing add-pays, merit increases, data changes, and evaluation tracking, ensuring accurate and timely updates in the system.
General Administrative SupportAdminister the front desk register, issue employee ID cards, respond to internal and external inquiries, and support departmental projects. Also, provide clerical and customer service support.

Tech Savvy: Proficient with office computer systems and programs (Workday, Microsoft Office), databases, and reporting tools.

Knowledgeable in HR & Compliance: Experienced in training coordination, personnel administration, and regulatory reporting.

Effective Communicator: Clear and professional in written and verbal communications with staff, management, and the public.

Team-Oriented: Collaborates well, anticipates needs, and contributes to process improvements.
Minimum Qualifications - Required Management Technician I: A combination of experience and education equivalent to
two years of administrative or technical level support experience or one year of highly complex clerical support involving data collection, report writing, and/or research (equivalent to Administrative Secretary, Legal Administrative Secretary, Executive Assistant or Police Records Supervisor) plus college coursework in business or public administration or closely related field.
Management Technician II: A combination of experience and education equivalent to
three years of administrative or technical level support experience or two years of highly complex clerical support involving data collection, report writing, research and/or supervision (equivalent to Administrative Secretary, Legal Administrative Secretary, Executive Assistant or Police Records Supervisor) and two years full time college course work (48 semester units) in business or public administration or a closely related field.
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
Important Note : This position will be required to undergo and successfully complete an extensive post-offer Police Department background investigation.
