Position DescriptionActs as the representative of the Dean in all matters affecting the School at the Regional Campus. Directly responsible at the Regional Campus for those functions usually performed by the Dean's Office in Lubbock which include but are not limited to: Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Curricular coordination and facilitation, participation in community relations, acting as liaison between School and various local, state and national agencies. Manages Regional Chairs who supervise employees in the Regional Campus Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Also directly supervises 1-2 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Major/Essential Functions- The Regional Dean serves at the discretion of and has responsibilities and authority delegated by the Dean of the School of Medicine.
- Provide direction to the Permian Basin Campus and all its pursuits, following all institutional and School of Medicine policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to the campus faculty in education, development, research and clinical care.
- Assure efficient administration and responsible financial management of the campus, maintaining a positive cash flow and fund balance in each academic department and the regional dean's office.
- Collaborate with and support co-endeavors with the teaching hospitals, seeking new opportunities that will strengthen the teaching and clinical missions of the medical school, and improve hospital contracts and fair market value for services provided by the School of Medicine.
- Assure high-quality teaching programs for students, residents and faculty.
- Maintain high-quality residency programs with all the necessary accreditations, and recruit the best possible residents. Work to increase the number of residency programs for Pediatrics available on the Permian Basin campus.
- Maintain high-quality clinical programs and services for the people of the region, meeting or exceeding all metrics regarding patient care, revenue cycle management, and maximizing reimbursement for services provided.
- Develop a first-rate clinical research program to support faculty and meet or exceed ACGME requirements.
- Recruit the best possible faculty to carry out the School of Medicine missions, the TTUHSC values, and TTUHSC vision for innovation and collaboration.
- Comply with and exceed all LCME requirements, standards, and elements.
- Manage the Medical Practice Income Plan on the campus in compliance with the plan bylaws, federal and state rules and guidelines, and institutional and School of Medicine policies and procedures.
- Continue collaboration and develop positive working relationships with community leaders and partners on the Permian Basin campus, and with the other institutional and School of Medicine campuses and leadership.
- Work with the TTUHSC Office of Institutional Advancement to create opportunities for scholarships, research and facilities.
Required QualificationsDoctoral degree (M.D. Ph.D.) and 10 years related experience and/or training.
